Gulf State Park is a great park with lots of stuff to do, however reservations can be a trial sometimes. Also, if you are there and looking at making reservations for a follow on stay, do NOT take the word of the people at the campground gate entrance that there are no available spots for your booking! Go to the main park HQ and ask them. The Campground Office people are very helpful, but their reservations system isn't real time.
Twice now, the Campground office has told us that there were not openings for our time frame
, but we could go to the Main Park Headquarters and get put on the waiting list. Both times we went to the HQ and they showed multiple sites open for our time frame!
What's up with that?!?
There appears to be a disconnect between actual available sites and what is visible at the Campground Office.
Last comment, no one has mentioned Island Retreat RV Park in Gulf Shores, less expensive than Gulf State Park, and not a bad park. Not a lot of frills, but has a small camp store, pool, nice spots, friendly staff, and is on the way to Ft. Morgan. Nice biking route to Ft. Morgan, as well as close to the ferry to Dauphin Island across Mobile Bay.
Check it out!
