Good evening,
Has anyone stayed at Gulf State park lately. I know it suffered a lot of damage a few years ago from Hurricane Ivan and that they have rebuilt every campsite. I'm wondering if the trees are coming back and what the general condition of the park is?
Thanks for any replies.

We were at Gulf State Park in November. You're correct that most of the trees in the campground are gone and even though they have planted lots of sapplings, it will be years before the trees all grow back. The pier is damaged and still closed but the beach is as pretty as ever.

All 398 sites are paved with 50amp electric, water, and sewer. I didn't go in the bath house but they all appeared to be newly rebuilt.

It's still one of our favorite places.

Sorry if I'm a bit late in chiming-in. We stayed there over the Holidays, and it was a very very nice experience. Park had suffered damage, but that just makes it look all the more 'rustic' and primitive. They are doing a lot of re-construction so it will come back eventually. Don't forget to go to Lambert's Restaurant (Throwed-Rolls), Lulu's Restaurant (Jimmy Buffett's sister) and Billy's Seafood Market, all well-worth the stop.

Unfortunately, our last stay there cost us over $2k. Dog got bit by a water-moccasin/cottonmouth, and anti-venim is very expensive. he's fine now, and I thank the folks at Foley Animal Hospital for the happy-outcome. It was probably our fault, there had been a lot of rain and the dog was playing 'big-game hunter' in the brush near the water-edge. Just the same, it IS a natural-environment.

HTH.
Ron

We stayed there a number of years ago backed up to the lake. We would watch the alligators at night and the people skiing in the lake during the day.
