Gunnison, CO campgrounds

I'm still working on a summer trip and we plan to spend a little time in Gunnison. Looks like there are 4 campgrounds that can accommodate us and I've read about them on RVParkReviews but would also like to hear from any of you who have stayed in them. Thanks

I don't know much about the campgrounds there but it is a beautiful place, especially the canyon. We didn't stay overnight, but spent most of the day and since we had our 11 year old grandson with us and he liked it so well I decided to show him the Grand Canyon. To be honest, I'm not sure which he liked best.

Were up there last summer. We stayed in the first RV park as you come off the Blue Mesa but before you hit town. Sorry, name escapes us! Lots of Texans summer up there. The CG was full of big rigs, shade and very pleasant on a hot summers day.
Did you know that there are state park Cg all around the Blue Mesa(lg man made lake). They are pretty open with not much shade. Huge boating and fishing mecca.
While you are in Gunnison, don't miss Taylor Reservoir. Higher elevation, another high country lake. Lots of 4x4and atving up there. Jeep tours of the high country. Dont miss lunch at the cafe. Food is great
We had a great time and will go again this summer. Lynn

If you're at least 55 years young and don't have children with you, Palisades RV Park might be right for you. Quiet, large pull throughs, pet friendly, and plenty of activities from live music to pot lucks to organized 4x4 trips.... if your toad is a Jeep (or other appropriate off roader). I had concerns staying at a "senior" park but the experience was very enjoyable. The only negative is the facility fills up very quickly from repeat customers. We've already booked our site for this summer as have several of our friends. I included a link at the bottom of this post for your perusal.

Regardless where you choose to stay you will enjoy the area immensely!

Edit: If you still have the toad in your signature rental jeeps are available in Gunnison. You won't regret exploring the many off road areas

Several years ago we stayed at one in the royal gorge area called Gorge view or similar. You could just see the bridge across the gorge in the distance. It was OK. May have been Canon city tho.
