Harvest Hosts

Anyone with firsthand experience using Harvest Hosts for a quick overnight stop at farms, wineries, and breweries? It seems like this is a more relaxed overnight stop instead of a Flying J or Walmart. It wouldn't be a destination...just a place to overnight. Are there plenty of choices? How was the experience? In general, were the hosts aware of near level parking needs of the RV'er? I like the idea of supporting local economies and getting farm fresh products. Plus it gets you closer to the pulse of the people...which is what I like about the RV lifestyle.

Unique RV Overnight Stops with Harvest Hosts

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry, this look awesome !!!! We have heard that some of the wineries in Cali have these kinds of options available .... and we are spending 3 or 4 months in the Bay area each year .... so this could be cool .... we love being able to get fresh veggies & fruit as well .... am interested in seeing who has been involved here and their experiences.
Thx for posting up ...............

We just joined Harvest host and look forward to trying them out on a couple of trips later on this year.
We think it will be a great opportunity to meet some good folks and pick up some good food and wine.

Our coach is supposed to be ready for factory delivery mid-June. I will join in May so any necessary registration will be completed before we fly out to pick it up. Hope to use it on the maiden voyage. I will post my findings as we try it out.

just read about Harvest Host on the "Gone with the Wynn's" site. Looks pretty interesting. Looking forward to giving it a try. Going to Alaska this summer, maybe we can boondock at one of the sites.

Sounds really neat, but you have to join before getting any details:

"We understand that some of you would like to see the list of Hosts before joining, but we know you will understand why the Hosts do not want to have their information posted on the public portion of the website. However if you have a specific question regarding an area, we will be happy to answer it. Please email or call us at 928-277-1661."

I just emailed a request for information in a specific area, and will post the response when received.

I would think they'd be more of a destination thing than a quick overnight stop. Wineries and farms are usually out of the way on county roads unless that's where you're traveling.

I'd also make sure to call first and get the road conditions for a big rig. Some farm roads are unpaved, narrow, etc.

It would be a good idea if it worked. Good luck!

At Texas winery for the night. Our first use of the membership. Worth it! Called yesterday, said come on in. Level, gravel, better than any campground. Dinner reservation at their restaurant tonight. If this is our only stay, it won't be, it was worth the membership price.

navychop, thanks for the great information. Your stay sounds just like what we are looking for in the finger lakes area. Did your membership materials provide specific information about the Texas winery?.

As I said in post #8, I emailed Harvest Hosts requesting additional information but the response only provided a link to the same broad map as on their website. Since the membership is just the approximate cost of one night at a commercial campground, it appears this is the way to get details for the stopping locations.

One a member, click on map location, gives all info such as size limits 44ft rv here, pets ok, phone, any restrctions, who to call etc. Our daughter goes to college here. Tasted 14 wines, bought a bottle, took her to dinner. For the price of their B&B we had it all. And view of vines next to us. Can't wait to do several more in TX before heat sets in.

There is a sample of a full information on their website. I printed a page of 6 member cards, just hand them to the host on arrival.
