We have had the Harvest Host / Boondockers membership for a year. Used it several times where campgrounds weren't available. Just booked several on a trip from TX to MI to WI to TX.

We prefer the Boondockers because it is always great to meet other RVers, and they normally have electric hookup. And the sites are normally more interesting than most RV parking lots. But as long as they allow generators, we've had good luck with HH as well.

I think it is a great tool to have in your toolbox.

HH is tempting but there don't seem to be many where we like to go. I also get the impression, perhaps unwarranted, that many of the hosts are at least subtly pressuring you to buy their wine or stuff.

Well no, the deal is that members get opportunities for overnights at many unique and appealing venues/locations for no charge, with the understanding that the members will then support the Hosts by way of nominal purchases their goods or services. That's the business model that makes this all work.

For the original poster, Boondockers Welcome (part of Harvest Host) may be closer to what you're looking for, I think they usually have hookup's in some form or another.

We have been a member of HH 3 or 4 years and have never been pressured even subtly to purchase an item. That said we have many times purchased something we wanted but be aware that was 100% our decision.

It sure beats parking along the Highway in some retailers asphalt parking lot. P.S. no hookups there either

Exactly. The hosts are enticed to sign up with HH because the program recommends RVers spend the equivalent of a night's camping fees at the host venue. It is intended to expand revenue opportunities for the hosts.

Had some great trips with Harvest Hosts. We try to buy food from their store but also have backup stuff in case.

I prefer Harvest Hosts, then Walmart, cracker barrel, campground, rest area pretty much in that order. Don't like crowds so a farm is fantastic for me.

Fair enough, I can give the wine away. Have never stayed at a rest stop, a Walmart or a casino so a nice place for $25 is definitely worth it. If it's quiet I'll go $40 or $50!

my experience has been that HH is a quiet out of the way, $150.00 a night campground with no hook ups. We use them often and have a great time.

I know the OP was asking about electric hookups at HH and received their answer - not usually. But I wanted to correct some of the misconceptions about expectations for purchases in exchange for the overnight. The suggested purchase, according to HH, is $20. If you spend more, and we have, that’s entirely up to you.

I choose HH locations according to their interest to me. If I’m not interested in their product I don’t stay there. I’ve had memorable experiences and have purchased one-of-a-kind products from small businesses that have appreciated my patronage. I’ve gotten a safe overnight at an interesting (and usually private) location. The host small business got patronage they would not have had otherwise. A win-win for all of us.

For me, HH IS the experience. If what I wanted was a quick overnight along an Interstate, I would probably choose another option.

You've described exactly what HH is supposed to be and how it is best viewed/used.
