Any HH members? Their FAQ says hookups are the exception rather than the rule, I was wondering if it's even worth joining as we mostly travel in the Southwest right now where AC is necessary much of the time. Just wondering if HH locations in hotter climates tend to have hookups, or almost never. Also in addition to the $99/year do you pay a fee at each HH? What are your experiences?

1. HH has no fees other than annual membership.

2 I’ve used them for 3 years and never saw electricity offered.

3. I look at it that if I use them 2-3 times I paid for the membership

There are a rare few that might have an electric supply - usually a 15/20 amp for charging batteries - some charge $ 5 - 10 / night for usage. The Boondocker sites (can usually stay 1 - 3 nights) may have some more (but rare) availability. The host profile will show what's available, charges, etc.

We've been pleased with our membership - unique locations, great hosts and friendly RVers. We have run our generator for a few hours in the late day to cool things off - then shut it down to enjoy the nighttime weather.

Run your generator if you have to. Most likely anyone else there in hot temps is running theirs too. I’ve yet to stay at a HH location that cared about generator use.

HH makes it very clear. You must be self contained. This would include the ability to cool if needed or heat if needed.

Some, very few, might have power of some strength. Don't expect it.

If power is needed, go to a CG.

We’ve used harvest host dozens of times. You have to treat it like a Walmart or cracker barrel, in that you don’t have any hook ups ( we’ve had a few spots with electric) but you’re close to something that may offer a bite to eat or something to drink or maybe some trinket shopping. They are not a campground. It’s a place to stay the night on the way to your destination.

If you are considering HH as a single night alternative to not getting into a CG of choice, then the better thing to do is to just find another CG, especially if hook-ups are a need/concern for you, and you're doing hot season travel. Most seek out HH's for overnights for their location (which more often than not are out of the way or off the beaten path) and type of business (farm, museum, winery, brewery, etc.). If you have a stop location in mind and no CG can accommodate you at that point, then just extend/shorten your day to find one with a site. Will be a more comfortable and restful night with hook-ups and without the "hum" of the generator.

Our experience with HH over the past year has been mixed. We’ve stayed at 7 HH locations, so I suppose we got our money’s worth. Worst was when we booked a farm HH ahead of time, and when we arrived wre told there were no more free sites, but they did have a site with 30amp and water. That’ll be 35 bucks please. BOOO! Also had a bad experience at a winery which didn’t tell us they were hosting a reunion at the building next to our campsite, replete with a DJ blasting 120 db music through massive speakers, and drunk patrons well past midnight. Best stays were at museums, and farms. The farm stores, where you’re expected to buy something were all very expensive. Museum admissions were fair. We will probably not renew. One reason is because it’s really not that easy to find a suitable HH close to your route. You do have to plan ahead and adjust your route and travel times to be able to use them.

I've seen 1 and only 1 HH with E&W. On PEI.

We purchased our RV in November 2021 and joined HH a couple weeks later. We have stayed at 7 locations, and absolutely love it. We have had great experiences and always felt welcome. Yes, they expect you to spend $20, and yes some of the things they have to offer are overpriced. If you are looking at joining because its a "bargain" way to RV, your doing it wrong. We feel $20 for a nights camping is fair, plus we get to take something home with us. It's always peaceful and quiet with plenty of room. We have camped in vineyards and rode horses, played with baby sheep and goats, fed alpacas, collected eggs for breakfast and have watched nature and wildlife up close. Just last week we saw a mama owl with two fledglings take their first flights. We can usually find a farm to stay at and have purchased home canned goods, gourmet garlic, excellent cheese, organic meat and or home baked goods. We almost always spend more then $20 and consider it a good value. We highly recommend the experience!

PS. We had 4 of our hosts offer power and water that were not listed as amenities available when we booked. They offered them up after a short conversation upon arrival.

Our experience with HH has been very good overall. One place did have a weekend concert nearby (not at the host) that we weren't aware of, but happily it wrapped around 10. The biggest problem? It took us a while to start checking for nearby railroad crossings. One place had *five* within a mile on the same track and several trains went through that night!

If you invested in a Class A motorhome and are paying $5-6 per gallon to travel what's another $99 to give it a try?

We like it because we stop at unique spots. We also find fellow boondockers at HH are far more social than at a standard camp grounds. Maybe it is because everyone knows we are all transients staying one night and moving on.

At the last HH stop in Florida there were 3 others there and it got warm. We all ran generators at night to stay cool but shut them down at sun up for a little quite time before departure.
