We have stayed at Mallard Point Campground in Decatur, AL, which is in the northernmost part of Alabama on I65. We've only stayed there overnight during the cooler months, so haven't had the opportunity to enjoy the campground as such, but it might be something worth looking into. There's a golf course there as well, although I don't recall if it's owned by the same outfit. We like it. Safe travels!

Due South on 24 toward Nashville area, south on 65 towards Birmingham, then Montgomery. Last time we made a pit stop in Nashville, that was ok but someone suggested a park slightly south of Nashville not sure the name or state.

X2 on Mallard Point. It's been a number of years since we were there but it's a very pleasant place and reasonably close to I65. It's a city/county run park.

There is a place in Huntsville, Al. It is located at the Space Center they don't have a lot of spaces but it is convienent. $20 a night when we stopped about a month ago it was about 6pm so it was on honor system. Got a nice surprise in the morning. there were some shiny things like ice cycles in the trees that sparkled they were all around the park. really a nice touch. The space center is really interesting also.

Cornersville, TN is right on 65. Here are some reviews, and the webpage, for Texas T Campground. Looks like it would be a nice spot for an overnighter.

Another review from IRV2.

Oak Mountain State Park south of Birmingham is very nice and close to the interstate. Sites are full-service, including sewer hook-ups.
