Just an alternative!! We stayed here this past summer, was a great park and the drive to the Headwaters was not that bad. Might be worth checking out

Another possible alternative: The Bemidji KOA. Bemidji is not all that far from Itasca State Park.
I quiz people on "Where is the only place that the Mississippi flows northward?". Answer is: From the headwaters to Lake Bemidji.

Call first. Not sure the city snow plows run though the park.

We stayed at Lake Bemidji State Park a couple of years ago and really liked it. Our rig isn't the size of yours, but there were large one in the park. Not a bad drive to Itasca SP. We stopped in town for lunch on the way back and the entire trip was very delightful.

We have stayed inside the park in a 30’ trailer, but there were a number of sites suited to big rigs. If you stay inside the park, bring your bikes or rent some. The bike paths are great and numerous.
