Holiday weekends & reservations

We are new to RVing. In fact we have yet to do our 'shakedown' cruise which will be this spring.

State Parks & the like with limited facilities appeal to us. We have no desire to swim in a heavily chlorinated pool or a games room for kids.

Our first expedition will span Memorial Day weekend when we will be near Providence, RI. There are a couple of 'no reservation' CGs to the south on & near the shore. We are flexible enough where we can arrive Thurs afternoon before the weekend.

Should we expect a problem finding a spot that early before a holiday weekend? Having never been on the road over a major holiday weekend, when do the CGs fill up? On the Sat? The Fri evening? Even earlier?

Experience will teach us quick enough but right now we have none of that & don't wish any unpleasant surprises during the first lesson.

Drifter welcome to irv2. You will find that here in RI,CT,MA. most campgrounds are booked for that weekend. Most people have been making reservations for the following year before they leave the campground makes things tough for those that can't make plans that far in advance. State campgrounds like fishermans start taking res. on Jan 2 others are first come but people start coming in on mon-tue. good luck.

Make reservations as soon as possible.

Remember , here in the northeast, the camping season is short and campgrounds fill up early.

Good idea to arrive on Thursday and leave on Monday or Tuesday,
