How to find Federal Rec Areas and National Parks that have RV camping

Hi,

I have my perm pass for American The Beautiful but i dont know how to find locations to camp.

The last three places i looked up in google were just attractions you can visit but they were not camping places.

So what do i research to find these places.

For example, i can save money if i stay at a fed rec land vrs the RV campground in Alexandria LA... for one night on the road.

But i dont know the google search term. I tried fed lands with RV, i tried national parks with rv.

What do i search for?

Thanks

UPDATE: i did find recreation.gov website but nothing around alexandria

My GOTO for all camp sites is RVParkReviews. You can set filters as desired, but I like seeing all my options.

I use the AllStays app. Federal, state, and local public parks all have different icons. I prefer AllStays because it has more of the public parks than the other options I have seen. Note that many/most public campgrounds have no hookups.

I also use the Campendium website. You can filter your search on this site and that helps a lot.

No hooks is fine its just for the night while i travel.

I did find this

https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/kisa...34791&actid=31

Which is right on the way near Montrose LA on hwy 49 but the sites so far are too far off the road, (6 miles this way then 9 miles that way, then do this and that) its too far...

I dont mind a few miles but some of these areas are for off road vehicles only and the last thing i want is to get stuck in the LA Bayou with my 5th wheel in tow.

Looks like there is a nice lake there too Bayou Luce Lake

UPDATE: OH its a swamp lol... i guess i better get used to that where im going, its not like lakes in the southwest...

checkin out that area some of those campsitess look quite rough. This is how good people end up in bad situations by trying to fly by the seat of your pants when traveling. You never know when you might run into some moonshiner who doesnt think too kindly of your visit...

OK ill check out those links thanks...

Here's an excellent site for national forest campgrounds. You'd have to look on a map first and see what the name of the national forest is in the area you're going. Then go to this site and look under that national forest name.

Campground Directory and National Forest Campgrounds

Your pass is also good at the Corp of Engineers campground and there are many very nice ones east of the Mississippi and some in the west, also. You will see a box on the left top where you can choose a specific state. Otherwise, if you know the name of one, the list is alphabetical.

https://www.recreation.gov/campgroun...agencyID=70902

Here are national park campgrounds:

https://www.nps.gov/subjects/camping.../42.55/-107.75

and don't forget national wildlife refuges... they are nice places to stay.

My Lifetime Senior Pass paid for itself in just one use last week the first time I used it, during my visit to Acadia National Park. And I have a lifetime to go!
