Here's a good article on preparing for your visit to Glacier before you get there:

Nice I have been there 2x, once for work and once for fun.

When we went for fun we did a couple of the hikes and some kayaking. Wanted to do going to the sun, but it was still closed.

We are going again in August. We will be staying outside of the park due to our size. My TV is too long for going to the sun so we are going to do it on the side x side. I am really looking forward to it.

Here's how to tour Glacier National Park

https://www.glaciernationalparklodges.com/red-bus-tours

We grew up about 70 miles south of Glacier National Park and have been visiting it several times a year, every year since I retired in 2012.

It has gotten to be so, so crowded that it's not fun to maneuver around the park in a POV. Almost every parking area is completely full from 10 am to 3 pm. The only way to find a parking spot is to circle until someone vacates a spot, then, the fight's on.

As a very pleasant alternative, although more expensive, I'd suggest that you consider a Red Bus Tour: https://www.glaciernationalparklodges.com/red-bus-tours

They have reserved parking spaces at the visitor center on the Going-To-The-Sun road. They have reserved parking at the numerous pullouts. There are a variety of routes that they take through the park.

Take care,
Stu

Visiting GNP in late July. Hoping to take Red Bus as suggested. Cant book seats so far as the site says they are delaying. Have been checking regularly. Seems like they may be giving on site guests first dibs? Any idea when bookings may open? Hope there will be spots for us camping outside. Don't really want to drive it myself and fight crowds.

I was in Glacier in early July two years ago and found that the driving was not that bad. But then I typically get to my primary destination early in the day before it gets crowded. I understand that many people want to drive very slow through the parks and take a look, but it is sometimes frustrating that people will not use the pullouts if they are the slow vehicle in the line.

That's the key.

Many who visit GNP target mid-day for their visit. There are a variety of reasons for that, and they're not all bad.

Early mornings, before 9 AM and late afternoons after 3PM will be easier.

At least, that's my opinion.

Take care,
Stu

FYI, Going To The Sun Road now requires advanced reservations. Make sure to plan accordingly if you want to drive any part of it.

Red Bus Tours now available

I just received this by email:

Historic Red Bus Tours Are Available for Summer 2021
We are excited to announce that the famous Red Bus Tours in Glacier National Park will be running during the Summer 2021 season! There is no better way to experience the park than in the passenger seat of one of these vintage automobiles.

While we are excited to offer these tours for the 2021 season, there will be some differences from previous seasons. For one, inventory will be limited due to reduced tour options and demand will be high. We highly recommend acting quickly if you are considering one of these tours. Secondly, masks will be required for all passengers during the tour regardless of vaccination status in an effort to promote the health and safety of everyone.

Should you choose to embark on one of these iconic tours, it's never been easier. Learn more here (https://links.email3.glaciernational...-2Fryirw-3D-3D) about the various tours or jump right in and book by clicking on the button below. We request that all those interested in a tour book online as we anticipate longer than normal hold times for our Central Reservations Office.

Book online here: https://links.email3.glaciernational...964fRDaw-3D-3D

Take care,
Stu

Have you tried to book? I have and have had no luck getting in. Got message that site is down for maintenance. Hopefully not overrun like everything else in NPs.

No, I'm waiting for a response from some others so we can go as a small group. I'm concerned that the others may not recognize the urgency of this offer. I fully expect that the available reservations will be taken very, very quickly.

Good luck in your quest.

Take care,
Stu

Thanks. I fear they may be gone already even though we just got the same email. Will report back if I get through.

FYI Got through last night late. Seems acess is sporadic still. Had luck using iphone.
Excited for trip. Was concerned about traveling 2500 miles and being shut out.
