Hudson Valley River Estates - places to stay?

We're planning a North West trip for June/July of this year. Was looking for a place to use as a home base to visit some of the Hudson Valley Estates.

Did some quick looking, but noting seems to jump off as a good location.

I assume they will not let you back up the RV into the Rockefeller, or Vanderbilt estates - and dry camp for a few days!

We have the joy, and at same time anchor, of our dog. So day trips of 4-6 hours max, though we usually try to make 4 hours the max...

Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Oh, and 40' size...

Best to all,
Smitty

We have a family connection to Rhinebeck, and spent 10 days at the Interlake RV park outisde of town last summer. Not fancy, but we enjoyed our stay, and a friendly group of people staying there, some seasonal.

Very few sites have a shot for a Satellite dish as most sites are under trees to one degree or another, and I will say the campground cable had a limited channel selection.

If you are interested in modern architecture, don't forget to visit Bard College and see the Gehry Music Center which is near the Montgomery Place estate which is fantastic........

Regards

Could you tell us if you are inquiring about the Northwest or the Northeast, specifically the Hudson Valley region of New York?

The Vanderbilts and others built some incredible estates, many now open to the public along the Hudson River in NY....... I know NW was mentioned, but I assumed the tie in to what they wanted to see being in NY......

The closest "nicer" RV parks are the Newburgh KOA and the Yogi bear Lazy River parks on the west side of the river. The also work well for big rigs with my vote for Yogi.
Don't forget a look at the Culinary Institute of America College in Hyde Park and the FDR estate there too. Margaret Norrie State Park on the Hudson River is nice and a visit to the Millbrook Winery is fun.
