Huntsville, AL things to do?

We’re going as a family (us, and DDs 10 and 8) to Space Camp in a few weeks in Huntsville, AL. We have a few days off both before and after camp and are looking for things to do/places to stay within a two hour-ish drive of there. Any suggestions?

You'll be at the Space Camp, which I think is part of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Museum is well woth the time if you don't get a chance to check it out while at the Space Camp. Nearby is the Huntsville Botanical Gardern which has beautiful plantings year around. Monte Santo State Park is a historic and scenic park on a nearby 'mountain' ridge.

US Space and Rocket center also has an RV park right there at the museum location. There is also camping at Monte Santo State Park. Bridge Street station for shopping, dinner or a movie. It's a very nice area.

Scottsboro, AL, about 40 miles away, is the home of airline unclaimed baggage. Maybe you'll find your own lost bag or just fun to give kids a bit of $$ and turn them loose. https://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/

The RV park at the Space and Rocket Center is full hook up, for $18 a night, pull thrus are $20. The RV park is mainly there for the families attending space camp, but is open to anyone.

Are you guys beer people? We are, and it turns out that the rocket scientists in the Huntsville area have turned out some great breweries. We spent a long weekend there a few years back. Our favorites: Straight To Ale (Monkeynaut!), Yellowhammer, and Rocket Republic. There's several more.

We also ate at the Schnitzel Ranch, which had great German food (go figure). Headed that way for work again soon, looking forward to exploring the area so more.

*if you have military base access, the Redstone Arsenal famcamp is nice. It's sparse, but tucked away from the rest of the base. Very quiet, river w/boat launch right. Beautiful spot.

There is a wonderful authentic german restaurant in Huntsville. I don't know the name but it is in a strip mall and very very good.
