Has the government shutdown closed Hwy 441 through Smoky Mountain National Park? I know Cades Cove and other sites are closed but did not know if they closed the highway to prevent anyone from actually "seeing" any of the park. This is silly!!!

I heard route 441 up and over the mountain is open, but the pull-offs and picnic area are closed. I didn't not hear if the parking lot on top (Newfound Gap) is open. I'm going to have to assume there is going to have to be somewhere to park for emergencies just in case your vehicle over heated.
