The bridge over the Mississippi on Interstate 40 west of Memphis is set to reopen in phases over the next two weeks:
The Arkansas and Tennessee departments of transportation said the eastbound lanes of the Hernando DeSoto Bridge over the Mississippi River will reopen to limited traffic Monday morning. The span's westbound lanes are slated to reopen Aug. 6.
On a personal note: We spent Memorial Day weekend in Memphis and left for Arkansas on Memorial Day Monday - we took the I-15 bridge which was unaffected by the I-40 closure. It was mid-morning on a Holiday and there was no delay in making the crossing. But I'm sure there are daily traffic jams due to this bridge closure and it will great news for everyone in the area and passing through to have this bridge reopened.
