Ideas for destination spot in Northeast

We are looking for any great ideas of a destination spot in the Northeast. Traveling from NC. Anywhere from Indiana north. Thank you

Come up to Michigan for the August NASCAR race.
Or my fav. Cherry Hill in M.D. the Metro stops in the park, 45 min bus/train ride to DC, great way to see the capital.

Anywhere in coastal Maine. Although we'd love to see you in Lancaster County, PA - Amish country.

Thank you all for your recommendations. We have chosen 1000 Island in NY.

Not only is that a great choice but the trip is pretty rural and keeps you out of the heavy traffic metro areas we all love to drive in. 😜

Upstate NY would be great this time of year - if you get desperate then try a ski resort.
