Wow and holy cow. I survived, and had a great time!
It turned out to be 5 days, as Sundays race was delayed due to rain. The dry camping was no big deal, 'cept for the black tank getting full sunday afternoon. Cost $45 for waste management to manage that...
The water didn't run out, and power wasn't a problem, ran the generator for a couple hours twice a day, other than that the batteries kept everything going.
I even managed to get the satelite TV running (After both the Dish and KVH tech support said it would take a service call at an authorized dealer...)
Here's some highlights.
BTW, I went to sleep very early Sunday, and only had a couple beers Monday. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, there was some partying going around.
What a WEEKEND!!! not sure even what was best... awesome truck race. Perfect weather for a great nationwide race. A 2 day Sprint Cup race? What about the guy with the big green monaco motorhome, mixing frozen margaritas? or 2 different groups giving away Jello shots? Or the guy next to me, who fed me prime rib roast? Or the new friend with the life sized cardboard "Ricky Bobby"?
Nooo, not all that, tho that was great stuff. Just before we got to the tunnel on the way out, one of Joliet's fiinest got off his harley and came up to the window of the bus, and asked "where u headed?" "I80 west" says I. He says "I'll get ya there, follow me" and climbs back on his harley, hits the light and siren, give me a wave and takes of into the tunnel, in the oncoming lane!
Now I don't know who he thought I was, but he took me past an hour's worth of traffic, all the other cops saw us coming and froze everyone in place til we went by. At the I80 onramp, he shut off the lights and siren, gave me a thumbs up, and we parted company. I don't know who he thought I was, but if he is reading this, I ain't nobody but a race fan, and I thank you!
Oh, if Kyle Busch is reading this, I'm afriad I got a "little too close" to the mirror on your hauler as my police escort and I passed it stopped in traffic. Hope I dint hurt it, and sorry! I am a fan BTW. Jim
