When in Oregon, definitely go to the Evergreen Air & Space museum in McMinnville. It's where the Spruce Goose is now.
Lots of great sights on the way if money is no object.
You'll need reservations everywhere you go. And lots of dinero.

The Golden State is somehow managing to tarnish. Who says gold doesn't tarnish?

Orange county beaches max. out at 70 degrees in august, Oregon beaches are not for swimming.
It was several months ago, but in CA we saw the greatest fluctuations in gas prices than anywhere on our journey across the country and back. Pass a gas station and go two or three blocks and gas at the next would be .30 - .50 cents per gallon higher.

But you are correct about the beaches. Unless you are into surfing the beaches are pretty to look at (which we did for over a week from our perch high above Hwy 1 in Malibu) but too cold for actual swimming. At least by someone who grew up on southern beaches on the Atlantic.

We stayed two public camp grounds in CA, both were nice and reasonably priced. The above campground in Malibu was the priciest place we stayed, we knew that going in, but we could have stayed other places off the beaten track, but neither of us would have missed our stay in Malibu.

Santa Barbara was a hidden gem. I would like to go back and visit the museums we were not able to visit because of the pandemic.

I was very disappointed that Hearst Castle did not reopen while we were in the Central Coast area. That means we must go back for another visit to the amazing property. We did get to visit San Luis Obispo again and were delighted by the butterflies in the Monarch Butterfly Reserve in Pismo Beach, a morning well spent!

San Diego beaches are some of the finest in the world. Any of the state park beaches are great. Problem is getting into a park (very difficult). My favorite is San Elijo, followed by either Carlsbad parks. An alternate that you can usually find spots during the week is Rincon Parkway in Ventura (just a parking space next to beach but oh what a view and beach) I am staying their July 1 thru August 7th can't wait).

For beaches in southern California hit the Orange county beaches. Cleaner and better crowd than in LA county. Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach.

Skip LA, San Fran, Portland and Seattle. Unless of course you love the droves of homeless junkies hanging out literally everywhere. And do not drive the Hwy 1 after the Golden Gate bridge with your 34 foot rig. Stay on the 101 if going north.

Unless you’re a masochist, the only months you can swim at Southern California beaches without a wetsuit are August and September. It takes that long for the Alaska current to warm up. Lived in San Clemente over 30 years. Maybe I’m just a woosie.

The drive from Santa Barbara to Monterey (through Salinas) on US 101 should be on everyone’s bucket list for most scenic rv trip in the country. There’s just a panoply of things to see and do along the way if you’re not in a hurry. Great wineries and campgrounds from Buellton to Arroyo Grande Check out the Missions steeped in history on this route. Good restaurants and farmers markets galore. You don’t have to white knuckle it on US 1 between San Simeon and Big Sur. Take your time. Enjoy the beach and nice campgrounds at Pismo or Morro Bay, and day trip up the “1” to see the incredible cliffs. Then hop back on the 101 up through Paso Robles. Campgrounds in Monterey OK. Don’t miss the aquarium, and day trip down 17 mile drive to Carmel. To be fully enjoyed, this trip should be done leisurely in two weeks or more.

I’m not a chamber of commerce guy. We left California to retire because it’s just too darned expensive.
