July 4, 2017. Where?

I'm planning for next summer's adventure. Our destination will be Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and the Badlands. Eventually we need to loop back to Manitowoc Wisconsin, and take the SS badger across Lake Michigan to Ludington.

Well will be in Rock Island, IL by the last week in June. That allows us to pass south of Chicago on a Sunday. We want to stop at Rock Island that we can shoot up to the American Picker's store and explore that area for a couple days.

SO....my question is where in the west should we plan to be on the 4th?

We can make the run to Mt. Rushmore and bypass some logical routing (staying in I 80 and looping back to Wisconsin via I90) or is there somewhere along 80 on our way to Grand Tetons where we should be?

There's a lot of country to explore, but we need to be in Wisconsin by the last week in July.

Your suggestions are appreciated!

The July 4th fireworks in the town of West Yellowstone are among
the best I've ever seen.
You can walk to them and town from one of the best campgrounds
in the area, Grizzly RV Park. https://grizzlyrv.com/

We always planned to spend the 3-day holidays at a nice quiet park off the main drag and one that had no kind of water - pools, river, lakes which is where you'll find the noisiest campers. Many small towns have great July 4 festivities - family fun like it should be.

We have stayed in West Yellowstone, MT. There some very nice camp grounds on the South West corner of town. We were lucky to be there 2
years ago to some great fireworks.

Your best bet would be to spend the 4th in America's 4th of July City - Seward, Nebraska. From starting the day by 'Firing the Anvil' to the fireworks at night they put on a great day! It is right on Interstate 80. http://www.julyfourthseward.com/ There is a campground on the S side of town, don't know if it is reservable

We loved celebrating the fourth at Mt. Rushmore back in 2013.... Super night with many extra special presentations....
