Kennedy Space Center Launches

We are looking at incorporating a launch viewing into our travels east from the vast desert wastelands of Nevada this Spring.

Any suggestions from you folk in the know for best RV parks close to the Space Center, and where to plant ourselves to watch?

Thanks,

Gump

We were fortunate enough to see two shuttle launches.....Both Endeavor

First one we had planned in advance and got reservations at Manatee Hammock Campground right on Indian River across from Kennedy Space Center.
Manatee Hammock Camping Area - Titusville, Florida

They have an 'activity field/boardwalk/dock' so we just carried our lounge chairs down and watched the launch.......LOTS of oooohhhhhhhh's & aaahhhhhhhh's

Second time we hadn't planned as well and it was Endeavor's LAST launch so everything was full close by.
We did get a site up the coast north to Scottsmoor at Crystal Lake CG and then drove to downtown Titusville (20 mins) and parked in a parking lot sat on truck tailgate and watched launch

Not a bad spot in Titusville for viewing----earlier you get into town the better the spot can be had. Some right on beach at Indian River water front.

Also you can park/watch from NASA Causeway

Course there is Jetty Park right at Cape Canaveral

Plan ahead, get reservations and go see a launch--any launch.

It's AWESOME

The Great Outdoors is also in Titusville if you are interested in a very nice RV resort type place.

For touring the space center, I'd strongly suggest you get the multi day pass. We spent almost 2 full days seeing everything there (when it was not crowded in late Oct.) plus another afternoon at the Astronaut Museum which is a separate facility (your muti like day ticket gets you in there at no additional charge).

There happened to bee a launch scheduled when we were there, but it got postponed a few weeks unfortunately. While it would have been a nice coincidence for us to see it, it appears the type of launches they do today are much more fluid when it comes to actual launch dates..........

In any case, the space center is really an incredible place to see and absorb. It's a bit overwhelming.......
