When we visited both King's Canyon and Sequoia NPs, we used Three Rivers Hideaway(nothing really special there)as a base. It's not that close to the parks but the drives are very nice.
I think of the 38 NPs we've been to, King's Canyon to me, was the most spectacular. The Grand Canyon might take first place only because of it's scale.
Take a lunch to K's C, we traveled it's road to the end. The day trip is long but has a huge WOW factor.
