Has anyone been to this state park which is about 25 miles north of Okeechobee.
I hear it is pretty remote & very different.
Only has 20 campsites for travel trailers (rest are for horse campers)
We are looking forward to it-almost boondocking but NOT really!

Have not been myself yet, but I had to look it up. My state map doesn't even show a road going there and my Fla St Parks book does not indicate camping.
When are you going?

It is listed under Fla State Parks & it DOES have camping. We are in site #9. I already spoke with the rangers last week and from the park entrance to the camp ground is a 5 mile drive on a gravel/crushed shell road.
Reserve America shows NO one there this weekend (when we are going) except us!
I am sure it is gonna be hot as heck.........

Found the park on the state parks website.
Also checked ReserveAmerica. Looks like the snowbirds have not discovered it yet. Empty throughout the winter. Unlike the new park in the keys. It doesn't open til Nov and is already booked to April.
Please post when you return. Tell me if there is any fishing along the river/slough.

There IS fishing by the river, which is 7 miles from the campground by foot or bike only. (We tried biking it and made it about 1 mile-too much sugar sand. We were the ONLY campers here! IT was great. BUT, go only IF you want to have silence! Beautiful stars & we hiked and saw lots of deer, wild turkeys, butterflies, rabbits. Clean bathhouse. But NO amenities. Not even a playground for kids. This is VERY remote. 5 miles from entrance of park to CG on a well-grated road. We will definitely go back. We loved the fact NO one was there; but ranger says it fills up in winter. They have swamp buggy rides in winter & star gazing with their telescope starting in the fall. Can't wait to go back!
