Knoxville TN area campgrounds?
Hi ,
We'll be in the Knoxville area for a wedding in late June and would like to find a nice RV campground to use as a base of operations for a week or more.
Any recommendations ?
Will making reservations now be prudent?
Thanks,
Bob and Karen

This is the nicest in the area but it's a few miles out of Knoxville.

Hi the trainguy,
Consider Hidden Mountain Resort, Inc. | Cabin Types | The Dell RV It is in Sevierville. For non-wedding activities the area can't be beat.

Not sure what other things you want to do while in the area, but the nicer RV Parks are near the Smokies. I think the nicest park nearest to Knoxville is probably Two Rivers Landing ( Two Rivers Landing RV Resort Near Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee) which is not too far from I-40 so less of the route 66/441 traffic. If you want to be a little closer to the mtns, we like River Plantation ( Camping, Campground, Campsites | River Plantation). Then if you want to be in the thick of things there are several places in Pigeon Forge. But if you want to be away from it all, like a previous poster said, Anchor Down ( New RV Resort, Breathtaking Views, Fireplaces, BathHouse, STAY WITH US) is probably the nicest in the area. We've stayed at the three I named and would recommend them all without hesitation.

There aren't many campgrounds in Knoxville. The ones mentioned toward Gatlinburg, Sieverville, or Pigeon Forge may appear close to Knoxville but during the height of the tourist season the traffic backs up for miles. Not easy to navigate and no real short cuts. (I live in the east of Knoxville and avoid these areas as much as I can)
The Anchors Down park is a new park, great views and right on the water. There are ways to get to the park other then the main roads depending on what your driving.
TVA has several campgrounds on the larger reservoirs/lakes also. Norris, Cherokee, and Douglas Lakes all have campgrounds.
There are also some state campgrounds spread out around the area.

Wow , Thanks for all the great recommendations!
After going on all the websites you've given ,my wife really liked Hidden Mountain Resort the best.
She never saw "stamped concrete pads, individually landscaped with an outdoor fireplace and a water feature on your own personal site" before!
They only have about 9 sites so I figured that at this point in time they would have all been reserved but the week we wanted was open!
We can use this as our hub for the wedding in Knoxville, some SMNP sightseeing and maybe a trip over to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville.
Thanks Again,
Bob and Karen

Hi the trainguy,
For a rental only site 2615 has the fire place and waterfall. If that site is not available, site 2605 has a screened in porch that is available to guests.
