We stayed at the Daytona/Speedway KOA twice in the last few years for just single night stops. Close to highway exit and decent sites. Have never been there during a race.
We've stayed at the KOA in Sugarloaf Key (about mm20) which is the nearest KOA to Key West. We go every year for Easter (this is our 4th Easter down there) and once for a week in the summer. Sites can be tight but you can get your awning out. If you go for beachfront sites, you CANNOT extend your awning as they are even tighter. My sons like it because it is wall to wall teens, plenty of water sports, fishing, kayaks, boat docks, etc. Nightly entertainment and a bar on site. Close to Key West but not too close. Great biking trail leads out to a washed out bridge. Close to Big Pine Key if you need anything from the store.

There is another campground run by KOA that is the closest commercial CG that is not on Daytona International Speedway property. It is called Race Track RV and is located just across the street from the vendors near turn 4. The place is really on airport property and is run by KOA and is only open for race events, NASCAR, Bike Week and such. It is not cheap, around $150.00 a night for water, electric and 3 pump-outs for the week. They give the 10% KOA discount which helps with the costs. The nice thing about the place is that you do not have to worry about race traffic; it is an easy walk to the track. We have stayed there many times, but not this year.

.......We stayed @ Daytons KOA on Nova road, not sure if it is the same as speedway KOA, but on a lower key and more family oriented.

Crazy Canuks,
Sites on the water at Sugarloaf KOA are the only ones where you can't extend your awning. Sites that number in the 150-200 range are wider and you can keep your awning out all the time.
I walked through Bluewater Key a few years ago and the sites are VERY nice and have some privacy. Not as much going on as Sugarloaf so Bluewater is definitely more peaceful.

Be advised that Bluewater is around $120.00 a night, $150 a night waterfront. Very nice RV resort type park.
Bluewater is 13 miles from Key West, Boyd's about 3 miles from Key West and is nice but looks pretty crowded from outside the park. Commenters say parking maneuvers are tight for larger rigs.
I'm in KW now and absolutely love this place. Friendly people, great food, and unsurpassed weather.

Thanks everyone for your replies/pictures so far...keep them coming.
Sugarloaf KOA sounds a bit more livelier than Bluewater but we just can't see paying for a waterfront site that you can't use your awning. Waterfront will always be our first choice and being jammed close together doesn't appeal to us.
Spoke with Bluewater Key this morning. Very friendly staff member. We have put our names on the contact list. While $150.00 per night ($146 CDN ) is a lot of $$$ it is not unreasonable for what you get (+ our Golden can swim off our private dock as can we ).
We will check out Sunshine & Boyds. Very interested in seeing actual pics of these places as RVThere posted vs internet website pics.

Hello, we just returned from Key West, Naples and Daytona for the 500. We've been to the keys past 3 years. Year one stayed at sugarloaf key koa, somewhat disappointed. We were in a 5th wheel, couldn't get it in the small site, had to move to 30amp no sewer and had to be pumped out. And the sites super tight! But management did work with us. Past 2 years Boyds. We had no problem getting our 42 foot motorhome in the sites and everyone very nice, also close to town and a lot to do. Only complaint which couldn't be help was noise from airport and the street traffic, request site away from street. In Daytona we stayed at the Koa speedway, sites plenty big enough, people very nice and helpful. Still only complaint airport and street noise traffic. They had a shuttle van to the track for $5 per person each way, sooooo worth it, especially for the 500, traffic a nightmare. Sorry, rattling on, but hope this helps you. Our trip was awesome!!

Jbgrams...thanks for the info...much appreciated. We have booked Daytona/Speedway KOA for Speed Week 2012 and we will take advantage of the shuttle. DW is pumped to do the farmers/flea market next door We can put up with the Street & Plane noise for the week.
We have put a deposit down on a waterfront site at Sunshine Key and we also have our names on a list over at Bluewater Key...it sounds like they only have a couple of waterfront sites that are 5'r friendly...the others are canal or pool locations.
We would be interested in seeing any pics you care to post/share on Boyds.
Thanks for RATTLING on
Cheers
