Late to the party
Well despite my best efforts, were late to the party for next summer in Yellowstone. We thought we'd like to book Fishing Bridge for 6 nights. However, the 40' vehicle sites are sold out in July. The next level is vehicles under 35' and were 37' with our new rig.
Any suggestions?

If you don't have to be in the park, there are several nice RV parks in West Yellowstone. We like Yellowstone Grizzly. It's just 5 miles from the west entrance and the town of West Yellowstone is delightful. We have friends that prefer Yellowstone Holiday on Hebgen Lake. It's a bit further out, but nice lake views, if that is your preference.

Grizzly in W Yellowstone is nice if you need full hookup. We were there in July and stayed a few days at Buffalo Bill State Park outside the east entrance and a few more days up at Mammoth Hot Springs inside the park and enjoyed ourselves. Be sure to do the Buffalo Bill museum in Cody. It is actually 4 museums in one and can take a couple days to view it all.

We stayed in Grizzley (West Yellowstone) and would/will stay there again. It is walking distance to the town of West Yellowstone and a short drive to the west entrance of the park.
It probably does not have the "the nature" feel of some but it's clean, well maintained, and convenient.

We try to go to Yellowstone every year, and we always stay at Grizzly. It's a class act.
We drove all over Fishing Bridge this year. It would take me two hours to get in the biggest site, and it's just not close to being a nice campground. It's not that centrally located and Grizzly is less than a mile from the West Entrance. The cost is similar and then there is the town of West Yellowstone with restaurants and shops.

Thank you! We had planned to land in Cody for a few days before heading in to Yellowstone. We're coming from the East and hitting all of the stops on the way on I 90. Do you think driving through Yellowstone with a 37' A and Toad is the "best" plan to get to West Yellowstone? Our next stop will be Colter Bay from where ever we land.
We appreciate your insight and experience!

You will be fine going in the east entrance and out the west. We've stayed at the North Fork CG @ Buffalo Bill twice and it's great. Flagg Ranch is right outside the south entrance next to Teton NP. Spacious sites.

Ditto on Grizzly in W. Yellowstone. It has full hookups and located right outside the park entrance.
No problem driving through Yellowstone from Cody in a 37' Class A with a toad. We did it several years ago. Be courteous and use some of the numerous pull-outs to allow traffic to pass when necessary.

You can definitely drive east to west and west to south or north with a big rig. Traffic-wise, it's best to leave early morning before everyone gets on the road, plus, you'll see more critters that way.

There are a few RV campgrounds in West Yellowstone. There is one in Gardner.

Though nobody mentioned it, Mammoth Hot Springs campground is first come first serve with 85 sites. Mostly pull thru sites accommodating rigs to 75' total. There are other first come campgrounds that will hold your rig too, but not nearly as many sites.
There are a couple US Forest Service campgrounds within 25 miles of the park that have electricity and accept reservations. You can find them at the bottom of this page in the USFS campground descriptions... Yellowstone RV Camping | RV Camping
