Looking for a lake within 5 hours of STL
Good evening all! Due to unforeseen circumstances, our trip to Mexico in July is being cancelled for a closer to home trip. Looking to stay within about 5 hours of St. Louis, and something similar to Branson or lake of the ozarks, but not either one of those, as we go there often. Would love to park the camper with a full hookup within sight of a nice lake and a beach to sit on. Maybe some nice restaurants around as well. Any ideas? Thanks!

Check out Land Between the Lakes near Paducah,Kentucky. Many activities with numerous places to eat. Lots of campgrounds.

How about Rend Lake? It is in Illinois, just south of where I57 and I64 meet. There is an Illinois State Park there and other recreational things.
I have never camped there, but have been to the lake and it is a very pretty place.
Regards.
Chuck

Bull Shoals and Lake Norfolk both have great COE campgrounds on them.

Rend Lake is a COE facility. We stayed there in 2017 and paid about $12 a day (we have a senior pass). As I recall we had a FHU site. It was beautiful, and the site was good size.

Patoka Lake in southeast Indiana. Lake is very pretty, and if you get bored you can go to French Lick/Baden Springs for a short sightseeing trip.

Norfolk and Bull Shoals are very nice but Norfolk I feel is a little more remote
