Looking for halfway campsite between Waxahachie and Galveston

We would love to find a nice place to stay the night off the beaten path between our home in Midlothian TX ( 30 mi South of Dallas) and Galveston. I would love to avoid going thru Houston all together if possible. We would need a place that could accommodate our 34' MH w/toad Thanks for any suggestions !

Around Lake Conroe there are a couple of campgrounds. We are Thousand Trails members and stay at Lake Conroe4 times over the last 2 years. We have towed our 45 foot triaxle toy hauler thru Houston without any problems. We just go thru on off hour times, 10am - 3pm.
We will be at Galveston Island for New Years than to Lake Conroe on January 6 for 3 weeks.

I think there is a KOA next to Lake Conroe and the Thousand Trails park does take retail customers.

Lake Livingston on Hwy 59 has a nice state park also. I do not know how to get to Galveston without going through Houston, but I'm watching to see if anyone else knows.

Looking for halfway campsite between Waxahachie and Galveston

Why turn a 5 hour drive into a 2 day trip?

There are a couple of rv parks close to Washington on the Brazos State Park. Never stayed there but pretty area and Tx History.
Not sure sure how to avoid Houston going to Galveston. As mentioned, hit Houston during off peak traffic hours.

Dallas to Galveston and not going through Houston????? A long round about trip is in your future.

You could swing west over toward College Station and then stay west and Soutwest of Houston taking Hwy 6 southwest of Houston and pick up 45 just north of Galveston. There are lots of RV parks around College Station and several parks around Lake Somerville.

If you want to avoid Houston your best bet is to go through Winnie and take the ferry across to Galveston. As to a stop along the way the KOA in Onalaska on the shore of Lake Livingston is nice, they have some pullthrough sites where you should be able to fit without unhooking. About the only other place we have stayed with pullthrough sites in the area is Home on the Range RV park a bit north of Huntsville on I-45, it is cheaper, and has a fairly good cafe on site (Shrimpy's), though sites are gravel, not as level, and a bit ran down with a number of long term residents.

See the countryside and perhaps dolphin!

350 miles:

Take I-45 to Huntsville
190 east to Livingston
146 south to 90 east to Devers
61 south to 65 east (Monroe City) to Stowell
124 to 87 west at Bolivar Peninsula
Take the Bolivar ferry to Galveston

VS. boring I-45 through hectic Houston.... 285 miles

We've taken the ferry and it's a unique way to get to Galveston. The ferry runs 24 hours/day and it's free.

We go to Freeport or Crystal Beach often from here in Gilmer just north of Tyler couple times a year . When going to Freeport/Galveston, Houston never a problem if not rush hour. If going to Crystal Beach we don't have to do Houston. We have never seen a reason for an overnight stay for this trip.
The ferry from Bolivar to Galveston is a cool ride and as said it's FREE ( a good use of tax $ ) . No problem with any type rv.
