Looking for Upstate NY camping recommendations

Hey All,
My wife and I plan th be in upstate ny for a good part of July. We would like to camp in either the Lake George, Catskills or Adirondack areas. Resort or state park sites would be fine. We won’t be traveling with kids so we don’t need kid stuff. We looking for a relaxing week in the woods, hiking, biking etc. if anyone has a recommendation I would appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks.
Rick

If your interested in staying in the Lake George area we have stayed at the Lake George RV park many times. It is a great park with lots to do in the park. It even has a shuttle bus that services the town of Lake George.

I think you will find state CGs in Adirondacjs and Catskills are all DEC CGs and unimproved so no power or water hook ups. There are private CGs with hook ups in both areas I f that's what you are interested in.

You’re in my backyard so it’s an area I know well. The answers really depend on what sort of camping you’re looking for and what size and type of unit you have. What is perfect for one person might be awful for another.

I have a 22’ TT and prefer the natural and spacious settings of a state campground over the setup up of a typical private park. Although electric is nice I’m happy to camp with no hookups. If your style is similar to mine I can give you some pointers. If you have a big Class A and are looking for more comforts I’m not the person to ask. More information about what you’re looking for would be helpful to all of us.

The other thing I will agree with is that weekends at state parks are going to be challenging although not impossible. I mostly camp mid-week and have no problems making last minute reservations over the summer. When I wish to camp over a weekend I typically use Hipcamp or Harvest Hosts and I’ve had lovely experiences with both. My only suggestion with those two platforms is to look at the pictures carefully and read the reviews.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I think we may try a combination of Lake George RV Park then spend some time in a more rustic SP setting.
SoulJourner….. we have. 34’ class A and would love your suggestions for campsites grounds. We would probably spend 4-6 days. I used to camp tin that area with as a kid and actually learned to swim in Speculator Lake. I’m excited to go back.

Use ReserveAmerica.com for the DEC campgrounds in NY real-time availability but you will find it hard to get a spot

I camped at Luzerne State Campground Sunday and Monday nights. It is in the southern Adirondacks maybe 30 miles NNW of Saratoga Springs. Just got home. Less than 10% of the 100 or so campsites were in use during that period.

Weekends more crowded but unless it is a major holiday I doubt if it gets full.

Yes, most sites are very large and lots of trees and woods between. We've been there 5 or 6 times. Pricey as most are, but very nice place.

Do you like wine?

Just a thought if you like wine country I would tell you to try the Finger Lakes Area. Lots of wineries in that area. One of our favorites is Sampson State Park. Then head North towards the Adirondacks.

2 of the nicest one I like are
1. North Pole Campground
2. Lake George RV Park
Both are excellent

In the Hudson Valley we loved Interlake
It’s near Rhinebeck

Sampson State Park is wonderful
It has a 40 ft limit.
I don’t know why, the sites are huge

Stay away from Corning/ Watkins Glen KOA and Bath KOA
Same owners, way over priced. I’d rather boondock or
If you can get a site
Ives Run Army Corp campground at Lake Hammond in Tioga PA is only $40/night full hookups. The fullhookup loops are amazing. $20 for seniors with the national park pass.
It’s about 1/2 from Corning and about 1 hour to Watkins Glen.

Here is a video of Ives Run

Here is a old video of Lake George RV Park from 2006
