Lower Michigan State/National Forest that can handle a 38ft MH

Hi,

Looking for recommendations for Michigan State/National forest camp grounds that can handle a 38ft MH.

I have a website that lists the campgrounds but would like to hear first hand recommendations.

Thanks,

Edit: Its rustic camp grounds for dry camping I am interested in.

Have you checked this site? We used it all the time with our 40' MH.

https://www.forestcamping.com/dow/list/nflist.htm

Also, D. H. Day campground in Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore is dry camping and very nice. Many such campgrounds in that area around Honor, Michigan.

Plug all your information in at the following link and it will show which state parks can accommodate you. If you choose more options you can even find pull through sites.

If you are looking for truly rustic campgrounds, you might try the Michigan DNR site for State Forest Campgrounds. These do not take reservations, have vault toilets and hand-pump water. The SF CG list shows who to contact at each area for information. We've been to many, but don't typically look for large-vehicle sites. One CG that DOES have some large-vehicle sites is Deep Lake CG. This is near the Yankee Springs Rec. Area near Hastings, MI.

Hi Two gypsies,

I will check that site out. I have read great things about that sleeping bear dunes campground. I plan to go their next year :-)

Hi TCG,

Thats the site I normally to book state parks, its very helpful.

Hi Trekkar,

I came across that site last week, its great. I have not come across Yankee springs but will check it out.

Hi Pduggs,

I stay at house lake a lot, both in the rv and tents during the winter. Problem is its next to a dog field trial area and they use the campground most of the fall.

Three years ago, we stayed at "Lake Michigan at Manistee," a National Forest campground in the Huron Manistee NF. It's located on the west coast of Michigan near the city of Manistee in a lovely, quiet setting directly on Lake Michigan. I just checked the site lengths at Recreation.gov and you should be able to fit with no problem. We stayed in Site 54 - it was large, wooded and gorgeous. I don't believe any of the loops are right on the water, but the lake was just a short walk away through our campground loop. The only negative is that the campground has no dump station, although one was available at the time at the gas station on the main road several miles away for a $5.00 fee. That was no problem for us since we were there for only a few days and had no need to empty our tanks, but it would have been too long a drive to use a portable waste tank should we have wanted to extend our stay to more than a week. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

Michigan is absolutely lovely - enjoy your trip!

I first camped at House Lake in 1975 with a bunch of buddies. We had a crazy time.
