Lums Pond State Park in DE

Anyone stay there and your comments please. We are retired and have a class c. Looking for a nice place to bike and walk. What about full hookups and any site in particular?

We have been there a number of times however not since the recent upgrades to available FHUs. Prices were dramatically upgraded too.

It is a big park with plenty of trails, a zip line trail, a RC runway, & the pond of course. Can't say that there is an awful lot outside of the park unless there is a need for a specific business in the area.

If more of peace & quiet that is sought you would be better looking at Killens Pond or Trapp Pond.

Stayed there for a couple of nights 3 years ago. For us it was a base to explore a few sites. I thought the campground was pretty nice. The sites are mostly arranged around a large grass field.

Fort Delaware State Park was a good tour. It was built to control traffic headed further upriver. Served as a POW camp during the Civil War also.

We have been to lums pond a couple of times, before and after the upgrades.

Most sites I remember which included ours were full hookups and level... sites seemed uniform. Lots of trails for biking or walking though there were a few spots on the trails that were rough for a road type bike. Noticed lots of people taking advantage of the fishing at the pond, there is a boat/kayak launch. I think there is a small amusement park on the other side of the pond.

Excluding the 10 tent sites there are around 70 full hook ups sites in the park, all back ins. Most are level but like all parks never level enough. There is a nice bike/walking trail not far away along the C&D Canal that is nice as long as it is not a windy day. Be advised that it is now a very busy park so booking early is suggested.

Great campground. Nice big sites, pretty flat. The lake has a hiking trail, you could ride on mountain bikes, but as they say rather technical. There is a great trail along the Chesapeake and Delaware canal, called the Michael N Castle trail. A great ride, no cars nearby. A few steep sections and poorly marked areas but still worth doing. If you have kayaks bring them, the pond is a good size for a paddle.
