Macon, GA Area June 29-July 4

Planning a trip to Macon, GA to visit grand kids. Plan to arrive June 29th and leave either July 3rd or 4th.

Looking at Lake Tobesofkee (Lake Tobesofkee Home Page). Any feedback on that CG? Is it reasonable to find good spot for a 43' MH there? I know they don't take reservations until 60 days prior.

Are there any other CGs in the Macon area to consider?

We camped there last October. Absolutely beautiful with great sites. Get one of the sites overlooking the lake. Try the Frisbee golf. Take the time to visit the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds. It is a National Monument worth seeing.

Lake Tobesofkee completely remodeled/rebuilt their campgrounds after a tornado hit them a few years back. Claystone camping area has the easiest access but Arrowhead has the best lake views. Unless you have an extremely long sewer hose you do not want site 44 in the Claystone camping area since the sewer connection is on the driver's side of the coach. Claystone has cable hookups where Arrowhead does not. Almost all of the campsites are open enough for satellites mounted on the coach.

There are two other popular campgrounds a little farther away from Macon.

High Falls State Park. High Falls State Park | Georgia State Parks

Indian Springs State Park. Indian Springs State Park | Georgia State Parks

On July 4th Lake Tobesofkee will have fireworks and large crowds.

If you are an aviation fan visit the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins. Entrance is free and it is open 9 to 5 daily.

Good Luck,
Jon

Jon,
Yep, I'm an aviation fan. I've been to the WRAFB museum and was stationed there with the 5th Mob in 1973.

THANKS!

The 5th MOB is still here and has expanded big time.

The FAM camp on base has also been improved so if you are eligible you might want to check it out. Still no cable TV but they have full hookups for everything else.

Robins AFB FamCamp

The web site says it isn't big rig friendly but I've seen 45' rigs using it.

I have reserved #43 on the Claystone side. that is on the end and closest to the water. Thanks for the heads up on 44. I can not get July 1-4 until May 1st. I have my alarm set. LOL

From what the DW and I remember site 43 should be good. Claystone beach is the most popular of the beaches and it will probably be crowded for the 4th of July weekend.

Hope you enjoy it.

If you are interested in history or the Civil War Andersonville Civil WAr Prison, cemetery ana National POW Museum are close to Macon at Andersonville. We were there in March and were pressed. We bought a book from Amazon on Andersonville Prison and read it before the trip and that made it more interesting

Ron.

Thanks for that tidbit. I was at Look Out Mountain in Chattanooga, TN and that peaked my interest in the Civil War a bit.
