Mid June trip

Being in St. Louis, MO we're looking for a place to go in mid June. Seems any place near large bodies of water, i.e. Great lakes, Gulf Coast, or even Atlantic coast, are all booked. Don't care for private parks. Not much on the western states, have altitude issues. We're more State, COE, municipal or even FamCamp park people. What we generally prefer is a week of driving about 3 hours and spend a night, another of the same and spend two nights, repeating until we reach our destination for 5 or so days. Then return the same method, but different route.
Like to explore the destination area, but then tend to get "happy feet" and the itch to be on the road to some place different.
26' B+ needing only electric, but full hook ups are nice.
Thanks for your ideas.

Can you change to the first of June or mid-May? Then you'd find awesome places along the Michigan shoreline, including Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Lots of state parks along the way. You could even continue on up to the Upper Peninsula and return via Wisconsin hugging the shoreline all the way. Go over to Mackinac Island on the ferry and take a horse-drawn buggy tour of the island. Enjoy some famous Mackinac Island fudge! You need to do your trip before school is out to be able to get some nice places to stay. State parks all around Michigan and Wisconsin. Here are some ideas. Google 'RV Circle Tour of Lake Michigan' and other sites will appear for more suggestions.

If you are posting this today for next summer (2022) than most of the state parks, etc.are probably not booked yet. They probably are not open to book yet. Many parks dont open until six months prior and in some cases less. I think Florida may have some of the longest range booking windows.

Have you looked at the Delmarva peninsula? A good selection of CGs between DE, MD & VA. Fridays & Saturdays are tough but there are private CGs too, as well as some inland SPs.

Mix Washington into the trip for a few days & you have a decent trip.

-Wappapello (MO) State Park (on the lake near the dam)
-COE park at the north end of the lake near Greenville, MO (not ON the water)

Thanks for all the suggestions. We've sort of narrowed it down to northern GA/South Carolina area. Hitting COE parks with no special place in mind. Got to wait for the reservation windows to open to see just where we stand. I'm not driving that distance to find full campgrounds.
