North GA is our favorite. Love Blairsville, Blue Ridge Hiawassee area for outdoors activities in mountains. Vogel State park is the most popular in the state. There are several private RV parks nearby that offer lot rentals via owners. We enjoy our place at Choestoe Falls RV Park.

We just spent some time at Elijah Clark State Park. Mighty nice park. Enjoy your trip!

Take a look at Stone Mountain Park. It may be more then you're looking for, but the activities/crowds should be away from the campground. About 40 miles NE of Atlanta. We've heard this is a good campground from friends and other RVers and we're going for the first time this spring.

If you are wanting to 'explore the state' you have a lot of real estate to cover. N Georgia is the most scenic, but there are some awesome sites down south as well.

Brunswick - Blythe Island County Park (excellent!!)
Jekyll Island SP - a bit tight but the island is great - may be a bit buggy in April however

Stephen Foster SP - Okeefenokee Swamp - Fargo - Interesting wildlife (and bug life) boat and canoe rental

Too many possibilities to list them all, but I hope you get the idea of how big Georgia really is

*Jeep Wave* We've stayed at Cloudland Canyon SP and enjoyed it. The sites were spacious but the park wasn't crowded. It wasn't terribly far from the interstate if you plan to explore that area of Georgia.

Month of April in Georiga

There is a 14 day limit at Skidaway Island State Park (next to Savannah). We absolutely loved our 10 day stay there.

Jeep Wave too!

Georgia is really two states, north and Costal.. I'm "Stuck" in costal About 50 miles from FL (in fact take exit 49 off I-95 and go North west 3 miles, when you get to the big right curve, go straight to the sign that says RV PARK and you are here) Leaving tomorrow however so there will be a vacancy at least for the day.. Don't count on it lasting.

park has been low on vacant sites lately.

This park has basically nothing to recommend it on paper save full hookups and the BEST 50 amp service I have ever seen at any park (one site per branch circuit, each site has its own 50 amp breaker back at the main box, only one exception and that is a park employee with a 30 amp trailer (also powers the water pumps) No trees, No activities, No pool, you can watch horses or cattle.. 3 miles to nearest restaurant (Fast food colleciton plus Waffle House) 4 to Groeries and another half to "Town". 2/3 the way from Savannah to Brunswick.

But nice people and clean level sites.. Friendly landlord.. Used to have a Cowboy church but alas.. closed now.

But I've been here over 2 years and it's time to be moving on.

Georgia is the largest state in square miles, east of the Mississippi. You got a lot of territory to cover. Lots of historical sites, lots of nature sites. Will still be cool to cold up in the mountains in April, do the north part of the state last.

Not sure what your interests are, so its hard to make recommendation.

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and Stephen C Foster State Park inside the refuge should be on the list.

Kolomoki Mounds State Park is also a good visit.

If traveling along I-75 north of Macon, High Falls State Park is just a couple of miles off the exit and worth an afternoon and has a good campground to spend the night. Just about 7 miles away, an easy drive on a couple of county roads is Indian Springs State Park which has some unique history

(I need to visit this stuff myself, haven't been to most of it since I was a kid.

Next to Columbus is the Ft. Benning Military Reservation and on it is the National Infantry Museum. It is big, nice and very well done, and worth a visit. Interesting fact, Ft. Benning, like Ft. Hood in Texas, are named after Confederate Generals.

Roosevelt's Little White House Historic Site is just down the road from me and I was last there 4 or 5 years ago, well worth a couple or three hours. Very close to F.D. Roosevelt State Park which has nice campgrounds, very scenic area.

Cloudland Canyon State Park in NW Georgia is one of the most scenic of the parks.

Not far away is Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park if you are a history buff. Site of a very major battle in the War Between the States, and led up to the Atlanta Campaign.

Way too much to mention, visit the official State Parks and Historical Sties web site and get more info.

If you plan to be in State parks any at all, go ahead and get an annual pass, a hang tag for your mirror. The Friends site is a little more money, but a fund raiser for the cause. I got one that is good thru May, thru the Friends, when I made a donation to Georgia Public Radio during a fundraiser last spring.

We have been wanting to get out there to that place.
As you have no doubt heard, avoid Atlanta.
