Holy Guacamole JLCKMJ - that looks scarier than all heck, that would be a definite turn around and get the heck out of dodge for me !! and I live in WI !!

Dieselgem - that is an awesome route suggestion.. only issue, we have limited time and it would have to be a day ride, and I couldn't agree more, we DEFINITELY want to be home before night time, especially on the bikes!!

Seeing as we are still working stiff's - we have limited time... We have so many things we want to do.. I guess we'll have to prioritize on this one.. I know I'd like to do it.. but we are going with another couple who have never been to Yellowstone, so we're making sure they have first choice on things... and to add insult, we are still trying to fit Jackson Hole in too... It's going to be a VERY busy vacation week.. hopefully this little side excursion will make the list..

Thanks again to all for responding/helping me !!
Skip Jackson and be sure to do the Tetons - Beartooth is a MUST DO for you and your friends - you on the Bike and they can ride behind to warm you up if need be.

If you must do Jackson make it a drive through - with a 60 minute stop - with YNP and the Tetons along with the Beartooth Jackson will offer little.

JMHO,

I agree Jackson, did not hold much for us. We stopped in the Cowboy bar for a hour. The rest of the shops cater to a very high end market, we were just looking to see the sites and ride. Your greatest loss of time will be in the park, especially if it is packed. Have fun post some pics when you get back.

Follow up question -

I have a 2010 Ultra Limited - how will my bike react in the higher elevations ?

We've done the Smoky Mountains.. but I don't believe I was over 6,000 feet.. I was looking at Bear Tooth Pass and I thought I saw elevations in the 9,000+ area..

Any pearls of wisdom ?

Hi Eric,

Your Ultra won't have a problem at that elevation. I've driven over Trail Ridge Road and Mt. Evans (12,000 and 14,000) in Colorado many times. Fuel injection is a wonderful thing.

Cheers!

My 3 favorite bike rides are Beartooth Pass, Zion National Park and Glacier National Park.

Love the Beartooth!! We drive our jeep and fish in the pristine lakes! Lakes are on the Montana side. We also like to watch the skiers! In July!!! Last year the ski lift was still in operation in July!

Thanks, I'm just north of you by Fond du lac

A fun day trip from Yellowstone is out the west entrance on 278 to Virginia City, then go to Dillon and up 278 to Jackson Montana. It is a tiny town with a "rustic" cabin/ hotel setup. It had fantastic food and a natural hot spring to soak in. Don't expect anything fancy but was a great biker stop for me and the boys about 5 or 6 years ago.
