I took my last MH, a 36' Holiday Rambler Vacationer from Mt. Rushmore down Iron Mountain Rd. (16a) to Custer St. Park a few years back, that was a experience! I do not recommend that in a MH! I made it fine, but, the tunnels were very tight! The antenna on the roof was scraping, the mirrors ony cleared by a inch or so! Here are the clearance's of the tunnels! Rail!
Sorry about the sideways pic's? I will try to do them right side up!

We spent all of last summer at the spearfish city campground.
In may there were always empty sites up until memorial day weekend.
The location is good for making day trips all around the black hills.
Other than the wifi being useless in the campground it is a good base camp.
If you go late enough in may dont miss the evening lighting at Rushmore. Daytime wandering around there was nice but the evening lighting thing was really well done. https://www.nps.gov/moru/planyourvis...g-ceremony.htm We went and had drinks and dinner in the little tourist area outside Rushmore and killed a little time going through the National Presidential Wax Museum.

I have been to Rafter J Bar Ranch and would recommend it.

I didn't read the whole post but if you take your coach up to Rushmore be mindful of the gate...very tight, didn't have much leeway on the mirrors going through. Hard to go wrong in that area there is something to see everywhere, and if the map says "scenic" they mean that and some of those roads get sketchy.

If you need a single campground to operate from you might consider the Rapid City KO. Near shops and eating places full service easy in and out. You would need a toad since it's a drive to the Badlands, Wall Drug, Missile Tour east and Devils Tower Deadwood, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore west.
