I have a 36' MH and was wondering how close to Mt Rushmore can I get with it? Looking for an overniter close by?

Thanks in advance!

Rushmore KOA is just about 10 miles from Mt. Rushmore but the sites are real tight for a 36' motorhome. Rafter J is just about 15 miles with plenty of room. Custer, SD has quite a few parks you will fit into. www.flintstonesbedrockcity.com is one of them. Sites there can take the longest rig, 45' with full hookups, 50 amp service.

Custer State Park has some beautiful campgrounds if you don't need hook ups. We met my father-in-law up there last summer and found a site that was 95 feet long. We parked our two fivers in end to end and it worked great. Still had enough room to park both trucks side by side.

Hey 6grengs,

Not sure if I am much help since I was there way back in 1995, but back then our 30' Class-C fit in the regular parking lot with no problem. We parked went looked at the carving, walked around and then left! I would think that something as well know as Mt Rushmore would have a place to park big rigs for a stop by visit!!

Try the Rafter J Bar Ranch just about 6 or 7 miles west of Mount Rushmore. It's really nice and wide open. It's a converted ranch as it indicates and so has lots of wide open spaces. They can be reached at (888) RAFTER J

You can drive to Mt. Rushmore and you can park there as long as there is room in the parking area. It is free to enter the monument but you have to pay to park. You cannot park there over night.

There are LARGE yellow signs denoting size restrictions on certain of the hiways in the hills near there. One for O/H clearance and the other on length due to some really tight corners.

OBEY THEM. We saw two MH's who did'nt and they were really torn up. Both within 30 min of each other.

We have been to the Rafter J Bar campground in the past and would also highly recommend it. Very nice accomedations and plenty of room.
