We would like to spend a few days in the Myrtle Beach region next summer, but based on everything I’ve read about the campgrounds immediately in Myrtle Beach turns us off. What options exist either direction along the coast for a similar experience coast / beach / near beach experience but still would allow a 30 +/-mile commute to take in the boardwalk once or twice while were in the region?

Also Huntington Beach State Park is really nice.

U r kidding! MB has some of best parks in the country. U can even get to stay free by taking a tour!

I second Huntington Beach State Park. South of MB, near some great seafood in Murrels Inlet, across the road from Brook Green Garden which is a great way to spend an afternoon, near great golf if you so inclined, and not too far from all the glitz and shopping of MB. I also like MB State park which is just south of MB, next to all of the commercial mega parks. MBSP has one of the last fishing piers that hasn’t been damaged from the storms.

We stayed at Myrtle Beach State Park a couple of years ago and enjoyed it.

We spent a week last year in the summer at an RV resort on the beach in North Myrtle beach, forgot name.
It was very nice, but too hot to be on the beach in the summer. Our camper was like an oven during midday & our air conditioners couldn’t keep it cool.
It would be very nice another time of the year.

Huntington Beach is our favorite also. Great walking trails, Atalaya Castle, and stopping at Murrells Inlet on the way back from town for dinner make for a perfect stay.

There is a new campground near Little River on the intercoastal waterway that will get you out of the congestion but easy access to the beach. A little further to the boardwalk. Sun RV resorts is opening a new campground between Myrtle Beach and Conway.

X3 for Huntington Beach SP. We were there last week. They have a nice FHU section for larger MH right near the beach. As previously stated nice walking trails and great food at Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island. Haven't been to a CG we liked better in a long time.

Another vote for Huntington Beach state park. We stayed last year and have reservations for September this year. The south campground is fantastic, f/h, concrete pads, nearly right on the ( uncrowded) beach, the seafood in Murrels inlet is the best, and nice walking and bike trails.

You could check out Virginia Beach. Several nice CGs in the area (some with free shuttle service to beach and shops), nice beach, board walk area, shops, restaurants, and other attractions like the Virginia Aquarium / Marine Center. Much father north of MB. You could also combine it with campgrounds in Colonial Williamsburg / Busch Gardens about 60 miles away.

Just saying, there are a lot of beach alternatives to Myrtle Beach.

I asked a friend of mine who lives in the area about this new campground. They told me that the community that it is connected to has a very high criminal activity rate. Anyone familiar with that information?

Don’t know how myrtle beach could turn you off, we go twice a year and love ocean lakes. Someone made a YouTube video 2years ago and while I was watching there was my MH.
