National Parks Status

Thought it might be helpful for those of us planning on visiting Nationsl Parks in near future to know status due to Government shutdown. Please keep political agenda and personal opinions out! Just post any personal knowledge of whether or not a park is open. For example, we were at San Antonio Missions last week and grounds were open but no bathrooms or visitor centers. They were also still running Via buses to Missions at that time. We are planning on going to Big Bend this week and hope it is still open.

Look at the big bend nps face book page.
Due to sanitation and resource impact concerns, the developed campgrounds (Chisos Basin, Rio Grande Village, and Cottonwood) are now closed.

In California, Joshua Tree is closed, Road into Yosemite from the west, I believe, is closed, parts of the route through Kings Canyon and the giant redwoods is also closed. These are due to lack of maintenance crews resulting in sanitary and safety concerns.

For accurate information that will probably change daily all you have to do is to check the official national park website. Look under 'ALERTS'. Here is Big Bend's:
