Oh, I get it now. The Blues performed some shows there. Thanks for the info.
Seeing as how I was always a West Coast sailor in the fighter community I never had occasion to learn about or visit an East Coast ASW NAS.

Hey FL420. Thanks for the link on NAS Pensacola. Good read. I was stationed on the Lexington CVS-16 from 1966-68. Home port was PNS. Before that I was at NAS Corpus, 1964-66. I also have a son who lives in PNS. I need to get down there soon. I love to go to aviation museums.
Seattle has a pretty good one at Boeing Field.
Here is a little info. When I was a kid, we was stationed at Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson. We lived right off the base a ways, and I used to ride my bike out into the aircraft bone yard. About 1956. Now it's a tourist attraction
Thought I would throw that in. Things have changed dramatically since then as you all know.
Take care.

Naval Aviation Museum is great. FIL was a founding member and his name is listed on the plaques upstairs. He was a Catalina pilot in WWII. DW was completely overcome by seeing her dad's name listed there. We have been several times and are going back again next month. Blue Angels are fantastic.

Our paths must have crossed at least twice in our careers. I carrier qualled for the very first time aboard the Lexington in 1968 in a T-2C "Buckeye." My feet never touched the deck that day as I got my 6 daylight cats and traps in short order before being shot off to RTB at NAS Pensacola.
The summer of 1966 I got my first stick time in a Navy aircraft in a T-34B "Mentor" as a midshipman at NAS Corpus Christi. We may have had a chance meeting then.
The Davis Monthan AFB boneyard has been on my bucket list long before I ever heard of bucket lists. A very interesting non-military aviation museum is the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, CA

I'm betting I saw you, maybe at both places. Beings I wasn't designated yet, they put you where needed. In Corpus I worked as a Gate Guard, then into Security office. On the Lex, I worked fuels. I might of filled you up sir. I don't do windows though, LOL.

One other question for you FL420. Does the FL stand for Flight Level. Just a guess on my part.

You might have passed me some gas.[emoji6] Gotta love you grapes [emoji524] and I have the greatest admiration for anyone who works the deck during flight ops. It's the most dangerous job in the world.[emoji88] Especially when students are learning their craft.
Why would you need to do windows? We've got brown shirts for that.

And an outstanding guess it is. It's the forgotten flight level and I have claimed it as my own.
Of course all the pot heads find their own special meaning in 420.
The Navy gets the best and the rest get, well, the rest.

I remember looking down at FL420 from FL490 on my T-38 solo x-country.

No kidding! I always thought you guys ought to sue those little tiny wings for non-support.[emoji6]
I didn't usually like to fly that high. It was hard to keep a cigarette lit at those cockpit altitudes.[emoji56]
Actually, I always wanted to fly the T-38. When NFWS closed a deal to get some T-38s to use as a MiG-21 like adversary to go along with their existing A-4E Mongooses used to simulate MiG-17s I went to see the skipper to ask (beg) to fly the T-38s.
He wouldn't let me as I was due to go back to the fleet soon and he thought I might be spread too thin as I was already flying two versions of the F-4 and three versions of the A-4. I offered to give up flying the Mongoose but he wouldn't go for it. I figured I'd better not tell him I was also routinely flying two versions of the T-28.

I'm thinking there should be a military sub-forum here.
The T-38 is a sporty looking plane for sure. But I hear you on the wingspan, 24'11". Good speed though. Mach 1.08 it says.
Now the one plane I love to hear is the Phantom, it HOWLS. The Lex couldn't handle them but I've seen them other places flying. One of my favorite sounds for my ears is when we was at sea, one week a month we flew day and night to get you guys not deployed out to get your hours in, but, first thing in the morning, just getting started and about to head into the wind, and the Stoofs, S-2, starting their engines. I really Love that sound of a reciprocating engine starting up. Picture this. As a flight deck hand, the recips are all firing up and getting ready to launch. That sends the ole tingle down the spine for me. On my off time, I used to go up on the island structure off and on, and spend in total, many hours just watching.
FL420. Good on ya getting your cat and traps done quickly, not everyone does. If I remember right, when getting qualified, you had to do a couple touch n goes then the trap.
Ok, all cool. I think I will ask to have a military sub-forum and see what they say. I'm sure there are a bunch of us here.
And thanks to all who served. Your " THE BEST "

EDIT: I now see their is a Military forum. And I think I see something called RV Related, LOL. OOOOK

The T-38 was a sweet bird to fly. Lightweight and simple.

The slatted F4E flew very similar, but being much heavier, you couldn't get slow or the 38 could rudder it's nose on to you for a slicing shot. The Aggressors had them when I was in the F4 and we flew against them a bunch.
It would go to and cruise at FL500. Try that in an F4.
