It is so wild - the things there are to see "out there" that aren't "on the map"!! Like the Obsidian Mountain at the Sonny Bono Wildlife Refuge near Niland . . . a solid mass of black Obsidian "glass" rock . . . and the amazing Mud Pots on Davis and Schrimf roads, off of Sinclair Road. Actually, you can take McDonald road off of 111 heading west, turn left on Davis and you'll see the "volcanoes" to your left . . . then turn left on Davis Road. That was one of the strangest things I've ever seen - all these giant "ant hill" looking things, just bubbling away and oozing mud . . . and "blooping" . . . and spitting! LOL! I had a ball and took a gazzillion photos. Oh - and BOMBAY BEACH!! This is one amazing country!!

Thanks for the info, we thought we knew the area. You did visit Salvation Mountain, right?

Have you checked out the golf course in the desert? Take the county road south to drop 7 that's by the Library, you'll see a sign on the other side of the canal. Follow the wash heading towards the gunnery range and you see it.

It's on the "Safe" side of Beal Rd. but when the boys in the FA-18's are flying around they can disturb your concentration when making that money putt

PM me if you can't find it or, if you're still here, stop at the Bounder at the intersection of Low and Fred Roads and I can take you out there.

K & C - I was talking about Niland, California - or "the Slabs" area as it's called. Lots of stuff to see and do there I never knew about until I got there and talked to the locals. Photos to follow soon.

And yes - definitely saw Salvation Mountain. How can you miss it? LOL!!
