Does anyone have a favorite campground in Durango, Co? Ones not to include? Planning a trip for mid May. Weather concerns? Thanks, Dean

Thanks Kayo, for your reply. Someone else told me pretty much the same thing. Maybe I'll get more replies. I'm leaning towards the Alpine Rose RV Park just north of Durango. Dean

We have stayed at the Alpen Rose and the United Campground of Durango and liked them both. The Durango & Silverton scenic railroad (steam engines) comes right through Uniteds' campground, which is a kick. We were in the first row just above the tracks.

We liked Cottonwood Camper Park, 21636 Highway 160 West, Durango, CO 81301, (970) 247-1977. Just a place to sleep BUT it is the only area in walking distance to downtown. A big plus for us. Also on a bike path.

Mr. Dean; We also found Cottonwood Camper Park to our liking; Walking distance to railway station, rail museum, downtown and best of all the bike/walk pathway along the river. Good for fat guys like me to get rid of that big supper. Last July they had a weekly rate that was at a discount to the daily rate. At that time there was talk of the park maybe being sold as the land was valuable being so close to town.

Thanks for the info on United and Cottonwood. A friend offered his TL Directory so I can look them up. As one person said, "It's only a place sleep."
We plan on sightseeing most of the time. Plus, if the price of fuel keeps going up, we might go to our local SUPER STORE in Montgomery and stay. Dean
