Need HELP LOCATING base camps out west for 45' coach

We plan on leaving West TN August 10 going West and sightseeing for 7 weeks. We plan on seeing the following places: Mt. Rushmore, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, Yellowstone, Arch National Park, Grand Canyon, Red Rock Park and Mesa Verde National Park. We plan on returning to Sedalia MO for the Newmar rally on September 29. We need help in finding some base camps so we can leave the coach and go in our car sightseeing. Any suggestions on parks that will accommodate our 45' coach will be appreciated. Full hook up sites is what we would like to have. Thanks in advance

We're staying at Portal RV Resort in Moab, UT right now. It's probably the nicest in the area (KOA south of town will also accommodate a 45' MH). Portal has two parts, the normal CG (has a swimming pond) and the owners Resort area (pool and hot tub). Make reservations now! We're going to Yellowstone in Sept and have reservations at Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone. Haven't been there before but it's highly rated.

From our trip last summer - places we stayed and would stay again:

Badlands - Badlands KOA. Not fancy, but nice enough. Drivng by the campground inside Badlands, it had no appeal at all from what we could see from the road..... Don't shortchange your time here - some just drive the main road and head on. Spend a couple of days. If you want to go down into the Minute Man silo just outside the park, get there very early in the morning. Wall Drug ranks high on the list of "how I wasted 15 minutes of my life"; I just don't get the appeal of these old "tourist traps" selling the same stuff that you see in every tourist town.

Rushmore / Custer - Rafter Bar J in Hill City. Good place to see the entire area. You also come into Rushmore from the better side traffic wise......

Devils Tower (if you are interested....) - Devils Tower KOA. Again, try to fit in 2 nights so you can spend the morning to do the "ranger walk" around the tower, and watch Close Encoutners at the campground with the tower behind the screen.

Yellowstone - Grizzy. It is a VERY nice park (and they let you wash your RV ).

Arches / Canyon Lands - Portal. Spend the money for the "resort" side if you can. When we make reservations they did not have any resort spots open, when we got there, there were plenty and we got to chose the site we wanted (late July).

If you stay in West Yellowstone, I would suggest a short drive south to see Big Springs and Mesa Falls, here is my blog post for more info - https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?bl...3;src=postname

If you want something a little Rustic, Custer Gulch at the entrance to Custer State Park has large sites. Rafter J is the preferred spot for a lot of folks here. We always stay in Cody( Ponderosa when traveling to Yellowstone, it is a drive. If you are not up to a daily day trip you will be better served to stay closer. Grizzly is ok in West Yellowstone. American is in Durango and I believe we stayed at Portal in Moab

I subscribe to the on-line version of Big Rigs Best Bets and have found it very useful. I use it as a base and then study RV Park Reviews and Google Maps satellite views to round it out.

Grizzly Park in West Yellowstone is very nice . We'll be back there this summer.

In Moab we stayed at the KOA south of town and it was nice for a desert CG.

Grand Canyon we opted not to stay at the canyon itself but rather stayed in Williams about an hour south of the CG. We took the train to the south rim and it was a great way to do it. Williams by the way is a really cool city. The last of the old Rt 66, that got bypassed, but it still retains the charm. There is a lot to do in Williams and it becomes a wonderland at night. We stayed at the Circle Pines KOA. it was an excellent place to stay.
