Need recommendations for CG's near Niagra Falls..

we may go out to niagra falls later this year. can anyone recommend a campground or two? we want to be near the falls and are thinking of camping in the usa and driving across the border in the towed. we want to be there for a couple days. i do see there are a couple koa's and some state parks.

thanks.

Osomanytoys - we stayed at the KOA North last year just prior to the July 4th holiday. The park was clean and well maintained. Sites were easy to get in and out of. This KOA is probably one of the closest to the Falls area. Its was just a short 10 or 15 minute ride. One of our club members stayed at the KOA to the South and said it was very noisy due to its proximity to the highway. I can't address any other pros/cons of that CG.
IMO,the Canadian side is much nicer than the US. To the Canadian's credit, they have done a much better job of maintaining their side of the falls although, the park on the US side is very nice.Enjoy your stay.

We've stayed at the KOA on the Canadian side and its very nice. Close to the falls and if you don't want to walk there's a bus stop right across the street.

We liked that KOA in Canada as well.

4 Mile Creek State Park. Reasonable rate, large sites many on the lake, near Canadian crossing and about 5 miles from the falls. Water and electric at each site and dump station. Very scenic area. We spent a week there in Sept. of 2006.

We stayed there last week at the Canada side KOA. They were running pay 2 get 3 days. Nice campground and only a few mins to the falls. Not very many campers.

We stayed at the KOA on Grand Island, NY. Had friends that stayed on Canadian last year and if we go back it will be the Canadian side.
Make sure you check what you can take in to Canada and what you can bring back into the USA, also what crossing is better.
Make sure if you have kids to go to Fort Niagra just east of falls, they have a great water park in there for less than $4.00 per kid.

30 years ago... (the 1st time I went to the Falls) I too stayed at the Grand Island KOA, in a Tent, It rained nearly all week, Wife and I never got wet though, it only rained when we were in the tent either sleeping or doing new husband/wife things

Rained again last night.. The tent is in storage.. We are in a 37' class A now

The second trip to the falls I stayed at a Coast-2-Coast place.. Don't rightly recall the name.. The KOA was nicer

If crossing over to Canada (Do not forget passport) visit the Chamber of Congress, they will give you a coupon book, discounts at many places.. And if you are an AAA member keep that card handy too.. More discounts.

We just left Campark which is located about a mile away from the KOA. The spaces are wider and longer at Campark but KOA has fewer permanents. Both are minutes away from the falls. There is a shuttle to the falls for $6.00 each per day. Since it was raining we elected not to use the shuttle and found lots of parking. We parked at the IMAX for $2.00 a day which is midway between the american and canadian falls about 2 blocks away. If you are going to use the QEW when you depart the access from Lundy's Lane onto Montrose is VERY narrow if you are pulling a vehicle. We went just past Montrose and turned into the outlet mall and hooked up. There was a stop light at the outlet mall which made it easy to get back to Lundy's Lane and make a right turn which was a lot easier to negotiate.

If you don't mind the 20 mile drive to Niagara, then Niagara Heartland RV Resort, Gasport, NY, is where we stayed last month. It is Passport America. Electricity was a deposit of $5 a day, and after 3 days running AC, etc., I received a refund of $4. Rate was $15 under PA. Very secluded. I would stay there again.

Howdy!

Don't wast your money on high priced KOA. We stayed at both both KOA and 4 mile creek. We really like 4 mile creek right on the lake. Also its near Old Fort Niagra was you get access to when staying at 4 mile creek. Its also a nice drive along the river to the falls.
