Nevada Hwy 93
We are planning a trip from Las Vegas to Caldwell Idaho. On a previous trip we went via I15 but it was suggested that I consider Hwy 93 through Ely and Wells.
How is that highway?

Its a good road. Lonely and scenic, I like it better than 15.
I also like 50 better than 80 for east and west.

My favorite route .
But I don't follow it through Caliente, take 318 and 6 to cut off 40 miles and avoid some of the climbs .
Some will say they don't like it because of limited cell phone coverage , but staying off the interstate through SLC is worth it .
NOTE: There are several small communities , with LOW speed limits , that are considered speed traps.

93 is great. If you can, stop off at Great Basin National Park along the way. Best stars we've ever seen, and that is saying something:

Travel it often. As said before if you take the 318 at Hiko you will miss a 6000 foot climb and save 40 miles. I do both ways because of the scenery. Make sure you fuel up in Ely and Wells. Jackpot has a small bare bones RV park at the Casino if you need to stop. If you take 318 you will go though White River Canyon, very scenic area. Just after you pass the Canyon watch for large ant hills on each side of the road. Sometimes they can get about two feet high.(no kidding) Either way you go watch the speed limit in the small towns. If you have time Ely has The Nevada Northern Railroad Museum. Limited operating hours do to Covid-19 but well worth stopping if open. PM me if you need more info.

FYI, gas stops can be 100 plus miles between them, so do not pass one if you cannot make it another 100 plus miles.

By the way, someone mentioned 318. It is a pretty road, but be aware that there is no gas on that road. (That's what I recall -- I could be wrong.) So plan accordingly.

Great road, but I would suggest not missing Caliente or Pioche, we love those two towns. The only valley in Nevada I know of that grows corn haha!

Fuel will be cheapest in Caliente. Unleaded is ~$2.20 and the next station (Shell near Panaca) and North it is approaching $4 a gal.

There is fuel on 318 in Lund, but coming from the south its over 100 mi from Ash Springs which would be the last station you passed on your way north. If your in no hurry then going through Caliente, Panaca and Pioche is a nice drive and you will likely see Elk along the way. I travel 318 often and have been on it twice in the last 2 weeks.
