New Mexico camping may be open

We just arrive in Santa Rosa, NM. The owner of this campground told me, as I registered, the governor has published ads over a wide area declaring there is no camping in NM. Well, I can attest that this is flat wrong. The Santa Rosa Campground is open. All but the pool is open. Being on Route 66 there are many fun attractions around this area. Unfortunately we are just passing through, stopping for a tank dump, potable water refill and a well deserved showers. DW's dad is very sick so we need to marathon from OR to AL. This is the end of day 4.

If you have plans that include travel through NM, don't change them until you confirm your desired campground is indeed closed.
Happy and safe trails,
Rick Y

Not long ago I drove through Cibola Ntl Forest. What a beautiful area. I really want to go spend a little time there. Does anyone know if camping (CGs or disbursed) is available?

I know Enchanted Trails RV Park just west of Albuquerque on I-40 is open. We have reservations for 16 nights in mid November.

Just got back from Colorado and NM last week. Most private parks were open but State Parks were closed or open to NM residents only. That order was supposed to expire 9/30, but it now looks like it's been extended through at least 10/16.

You can call 505-476-3355 for information about state park closures.

Did you see any of the ads? I don't know why the governor would do that, since it's clearly not true.

Maybe the campground owner misunderstood. New Mexico state parks aren't allowing out-of-state visitors for either day visits or camping. And for a while (and maybe still) there were capacity limits on campgrounds. But camping was never prohibited.

Anyone coming in to New Mexico from outside the state (including New Mexicans who are coming back home from out-of-state) have to quarantine for 14 days or the length of their stay, whichever is shorter. So no enjoying attractions until you've been there for two weeks.

We spent two weeks in NM in Aug. and we didn't self quarantine at all, just wore masks as required. Never saw the quarantine police at all, saw all the sights with no questions asked. Even a stupid Governor hasn't the money to track everyone and being from Calif we know stupid....

Just drive thru NM 10 days ago I-25 So to I-40 W and all rest stops were closed. So were all Casino parking lots. Left Colorado Springs with the intention of stopping in Gallup for a night but had to continue to Winslow AZ before I found a place to stop at a truck stop for the night. Poor semi drivers had nowhere in NM to stop. Signage everywhere “Statewide Mask Order”. I would call your camp ground to verify that it is open before making a trip to NM.

Why did you wear masks? They are no more "required" than the self-quarantine order that you flouted.

Maybe you should read the posts before to mine, 90% of the shops the wife went into had signs saying "Per state mandate masks are required to enter". Also I should feel bad for calling your Governor stupid.

Read the rules. Both are required.

Yes, I know. And 01blueox knew, too, but chose to obey one requirement and ignore the other. I was asking why.
