We stayed at Ponchartrain Landing. We have Passport America, so it was 1/2 price. It's not cheap but is a few miles outside the city and has a shuttle that drops & picks you up in the French Quarter. There's an rv park right at the edge of the city but I did not feel comfortable staying there, although there are many folks that do. Look at campgroundreviews.com for reviews of New Orleans parks.

I would second missourijan's recommendation of Ponchartrain Landing. We stayed there in early November.

I'll third that. Great place to stay and close to downtown. We enjoyed a week there in Sept.

French Quarter RV park, two blocks from French Quarter,
easy walk to Bourbon street in the daytime, 5.00 cab when
dark. Right off I-10, if you want to be close to this great city,
and are not looking for trees and "camping" this is a great location.
here is the link : French Quarter RV Resort - French Quarter RV Resort
You'll need to run your AC blower all night to drown out
the traffic but, on balance, this is a good base to see the city.
We stayed a week...
