Here is our trip report from Newport, Oregon, where we stayed a couple days on our way from California to Washington.

I think you’ll love it! But bring some warm clothes, even in the summer.

This is another place I visited as a kid on our epic road trips, and again a few decades later on the harleys. I specifically remember Agate beach from the 60’s.

That connection to previous road trips as a kid and as an adult must make these excursions even better for you. Enjoy!!

We enjoyed a great lunch at Local Ocean Seafood (https://www.localocean.net/) and took home some wonderful halibut filets and crab cakes to enjoy later.

Also, although we weren't successful during our visit in August, there are frequent whale sightings from several on-shore locations near Newport. Here's a link to a guide provided by a local resort that lists four viewing areas: https://www.embarcaderoresort.com/yo...ewport-oregon/

Take care,
Stu

P.S. I was fortunate to still have my baby teeth when my parents took me for my first visit to Agate Beach; the chipped teeth from shivering fell out before requiring expensive dental repairs. During subsequent visits (with adult teeth), I was more warmly dressed.

Stu, thanks for the link! We saw whales at Yaquina Head on our last trip, which was a real treat.

We missed seeing them this visit. We only had about 30 minutes, due to some other schedule commitments. Yaquina Head is a great location and a "tell" for where to look for whales is to watch the numerous whale watching excursion boats as they maneuver for a view. Good binoculars (or, as my grandson call them: binoculators ) are essential.

Take care,
Stu
