Niagara Falls

Heading to the Falls on 10/4 and we're looking for suggestions for a campground on the US side but close to the Falls. Those who have been there could you give us a yea or nay where you've stayed. Thanks!

What is considered close.

We have stayed at Niagara Heartland 3 times. It is about 30 miles from Niagara but the ride along Lake Huron is a nice drive. It is a PassportAmerica RV park so the price is right.

Any place you choose give them a call and see if they are open in October. Many close September 30th.

Did you mean to say Lake Ontario?

Couldn't agree more with Cliff regarding Four Mile Creek St. Park. It's a 4 lane road to the falls, free parking at the falls with your park pass and it's open till 10/27 this year. You also pass Ft. Niagara which we thought was just as interesting as the falls. Drive east on Hwy. 18 is scenic and Thirty Mile Lighthouse tour was worth the drive...

Stayed at Grand Island KOA. Very nice. The Canadian side is better than the American side. Also went in Sept. Had great weather

Be careful if you stay at the Grand Island KOA. I agree - it's nice, but DO NOT stay in the back section near the Thruway (or whatever they call it). It's so noisy you can't hear yourself think. Stay in the front section where the office is.

We were at Grand Island/KOA a week ago. Stayed on site 602, do not stay on 601 very small site. 602 is in the back and the noise that is mentioned from the highway didn't bother us at all. The site was full hook-up with cable tv.

NOW for convenince, it took us only 15 minutes to get to the parking lot by the Niagara Falls visitor center and only 15 minutes to get back to our camp site. You pay $10 to park but that is nothing compared to seeing the falls.
As said before you must take your passports and walk, very easy to walk the Rainbow Bridge over to the Canadian side. If you drive you can expect delays as the traffic can be really bad. You can really get the full view by doing this. Also go at night to the Canadian side and see the falls with the lights on them. Do walk up the hill and see all the amusement stuff for the tourists. Fun to see.
Have fun and enjoy the Falls!!

Another vote for 4 mile creek state park, nice big sites, e & w at your site with 2 dumps onsite, good bathrooms, and free parking at Niagra Falls because Niagra Falls is a NY state park.

How we visited The Falls.

We crossed on the Lewiston/Queenland bridge and drove down to the Whirlpool/Aerocar location. Parking there was very ample and free. We choose the $49 Adventure Pass Classic on the WEGO bus line.

This pass allows you access to the WEGO transit system all along the falls and additionally gives you a pass to all the adventures. As an example, the Hornblower, Maid of the Mist had a line waiting for tickets. With the pass you just walk right pass and go down and board the boat. Same with any other line at other adventures. Well worth the cost. You get on the WEGO bus at any of their stops and travel as many times as you want. The pass is good for 48 hours.

Have fun.

We stayed at 4 Mile Creek this June and it is a very nice state park. You can definitely save a lot in parking fees if you are going to visit the falls on multiple days. Parking lots 1 and 2 were under construction when we were there so parking was tight. Water and electric is not available at every site. There are water hydrants at various locations along the loop roads for you to fill your water tanks. If you have a site that has a hydrant in front you can connect to it with a "Y" adapter. There are ten 50 amp sites but there is nothing else special about them and they are not on the lake. There are a few 30 amp sites on the lake. They have a two pet limit and you must have a rabies vaccination certificate for them. The camp store was closed. All things considered though I would definitely stay there again to visit the falls.

WEGO was excellent for transportation from KOA to the Falls
