Niagara Falls Campgounds
Four or five of us will be taking motor homes to Niagara Falls in May. I've stayed at the KOA on both sides of the border and they are pretty nice but pricey. Anyone have suggestions for "nice" campgrounds on the US side that are not as expensive as KOA but still relatively close to the Falls?

When in May are you doing the Falls trip. Trace and I are planning our long trip to include the Falls. Would love to meet up with a group of fellow Irv2'ers. We are going to go up to the New England area also. Let us know...d

Is 20 miles or so close enough?
Niagara Heartland RV park
It was Passport America when we stayed there two years ago.
Take in the Gasport Locks.

Four Mile Creek State Park. On the banks of Lk. Ontario and 4 lane divided hwy. to Niagara (12-15 minutes). Near old Ft. Niagara which you do not want to miss.
Is $25. a night cheap enough?

Just a note that most KOA's have a buy one night (Friday) get Sat night free in May. Its just one particular weekend and its Usually the mothers day weekend.
The savings make the park reasonable. Some of the other parks were not open as of this date this past May.

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions:
Dixieray - I've sent you a private message.
HMiller - We have looked into Four Mile park and it looks good except they don't know if they will be open because New York like all the other states is suffering from reduced budget. They are not saying encouraging things about the future of the park.
FC Ontario - I don't think we meet the dates for the KOA free night but I'll check to be sure.
Wayne, thanks for the suggestion about Hartland - some of our members me included are members of passport america and it may be where we stay. Semper Fi!

We second the advise to stay at Four Mile Creek State Park. We were there for several days in July 2010. Gorgeous campground and a real quick drive to the falls. If they don't close the part because of budget stuff....this one gets our vote. The view of Lake Ontario is amazing.
Good Luck!

If you do stay at Heartland, take a day trip up to Olcott and along the coast. Nice scenery. Also visit the Locks.

I'll 3rd 4 Mile Creek SP. Nice large sites, but could be a little windy in the sites on the bluff next to the lake....It is a short drive to the falls area...

We stayed on the Canadian side two years ago. Don't remember the name but was large CG and very nice. Believe it was basically same intersection to KOA but was on the falls side of the road. Just went down the hwy a few mile and made R/H turn which took you right to the Peace Bridge. Had paid parking by the bridge and could stroll along the river up to the Falls. Was very reasonable priced compared to KOA
