North Carolina Campgrounds

Headed to Asheville/Boone area in August. Looking for a couple nice campgrounds at 2-3,000' elevation. Any input is appreciated.

Look up Campfire Lodgings . Very small campgrounds but it sits on top of mountain that overlooks the Broad River just outside Ashville, NC . Nice sites ,good WiFi. I've been there and recommend it.

Just looked up wildtoads link and that is the campground that I was recommending. Great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy the scenery. Also has very nice hiking trails.

We stayed at Creekwood Farms in Waynesville, NC. Really liked it. Might not be high enough though.

We're booked into Campfire Lodgings toward the end of July.
Don't be worried about the drive up to the campground. It's a tad steep but doable. You may want to drop the toad off before attacking the hill.

We stayed at Campfire Lodgings a bit last summer. The view from the big rig sites is why you stay there, otherwise the campground its self isn't much to write home about. The entrance road is very steep, narrow, winding, gravel and two way. I did it both ways with the toad connected, but we got lucky and didn't run into any opposing traffic in either direction.

Be sure to check out the "Stoney Knob" café. Very eclectic decorating, and very good food. About 10 minutes from your campsite.

Hot Springs Spa & Campground

Located about 20 miles from Asheville in Hot Springs NC, large campground located along the french broad river. Lots of hiking, and many activities along the river, Appalachian Trail runs through the town, good eating there also.

Jay, I checked Lake Greenwood out. Looks like a real nice place. Might stop there for a couple days on the way up. Thanks for the tip. Loda, is Hot Springs big rig friendly? Thanks.
